I have been scratching My head. What the hell is that thing? How long is the handle? Any markings on it?

Looks to me like the inside (shorter) chain is 'flipped' the wrong way... it should be inside the crescent of the handle. then it is out up against a 'round' side of a cucible or something.

Then the other chain is wrapped around the outside and secured on the hook on the other side...

(just guessing!)
