There is not enough sheath to see the wire size out.

3 conductors, one bare ground.

I think it’s 4/0 4/0 4/0 -2/0 but want to double check as I can’t find any local to buy, so would have to order it. I only need 10ft.

I guess my other option would be buying single 4/0 wire?

All they sell local to me by the foot that I can find is 1-1-1-3.

It will be labeled on the sheath, not on the individual conductors.

Just looking at it and comparing to the lugs, it's not smaller than 2/0. Might even be 4/0.

If I felt ambitious I might go measure a piece. Maybe tomorrow morning.

What are you doing?

Shipping 10' is going to ****. I have a roll I'd sell you cheap, but can't think how to roll it right enough to ship economically

Or split bolts but they require a lot of tape. I'd probably do polaris

Crimp sleeve **** splices. Since you had to ask, I will assume you don't have or have access to a crimp tool. The set screw type **** splices are available at the box stores. Wrap them with rubber splicers tape then an outer layer of electrical tape, I use 33.

Pics would help to understand existing and proposed.

Can you just replace existing with new and longer and eliminate splicing all together?

Maybe I'm incorrectly guessing your plans, but your current "main panel" can't be a pass-trough to the xfer switch.

There isn't one for strictly 4/0. 4/0 falls in the range of #6 through 250. I'm not a fan of the Polaris splices unless more than two conductors are involved or both wires are going in the same end of the splice.

Polaris splices would be fine. They are configured as "in-line" or
"****" where in-line is end to end and **** is both conductors side by side. (this isn't an official explanation)

I agree that a 'big picture' explanation would help....
