Wanted: Welders

Am thinking about buying my first set of gauges and torches for an oxy acetylene set up. Considering some of the knock off stuff, but also Victor. As I've been looking, there seems to be a difference between CGA 300 and CGA 510 regulators/connections. Any advice as to which one to get?

I found a Victor FirePower FP250 medium duty set up with gauges, 20' hose, a torch handle, cutting attachement, and single nozzle for just under $190. Sound good? They have an option for either CGA 300 or 510.

I don't remember which fitting is which but 190 is probably pretty good for the torch set.

Looks like a serviceable torch setup. Victor is a good brand.

IIRC 510's are the common ones these days.

I think that $190 is a good deal for that setup.

Just a thought keep an eye on CL for good used equipment as all the older victor / smith stuff is serviceable.

I bought a full cutting+welding setup w/ owned tanks of CL earlier this year. It was in great shape, came with a few welding nozzles as well as a cutting torch, tanks and a cart.

I stopped by my local airgas, picked up some new hoses and had my tanks filled and I was off to the races.

You can also find a lot of NOS welding nozzles on eBay at a reasonable price.

I bought an old set of regulators at a yard sale years ago, $15.00 for the used set. I finally got around to using them and the acetylene reg needed a rebuild. $100.00 for the rebuild and I have a very high quality set of victor gauges. The replacement cost is north of $1,000.00.

$1000 for regulators? Bought my Smith acetylene regulator brand new for like 65 bucks. Also depending on your application, 20' of hose might not be long enough. I think Victor is now made in Mexico. Looks like a good deal though

Can't go wrong with the Victor, I bought mine in '91 still going strong.
