Wanting to pull the trigger on some lightly used SK

So I've been thinking about pulling the triger on a used set of S*K 12 point polished wrenches. There are 9 SAE and 9 Metric wrenches in the grouping, with sizes as follows:

SAE:
1/4 5/16 3/8 7/16 1/2 9/16 5/8 11/16 3/4

Metric:
10mm, 11mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 15mm, 16mm, 17mm, 18mm

I've seen these in person (I know the guy that owns them) - they look virtually brand new - he's wanting $100, but I might be able to talk him down a bit. At $100, it's $5.55 per wrench. I know these run north of $200 from SK, but what do you guys think? Would it be hard to expand on this set in the future? I would like to have a full stable of SK Superkrome, but it's not in the budget at the moment.

Thoughts? Ideas? They're still in the original racks (although they've been opened and used lightly).

I am sure you will get better replies than mine so consider this a bump. If you want them and can afford them, why not? You should be able to live with the price, especially compared to new.

SK make top quality tools you will never go wrong with that brand.

PS:Steven when in town avoid the 70/71 split in the downtown area (childrens Hospital area will be ok). Traffic is down to two lanes.

In my main track toolbox, I've got an SK polished metric set (big one, 6-24mm I think) that get as much or more use than my main home wrench set (Mac KS Longs). I bought them used missing a few sizes in a pawn shop about 5 years ago. I had no issues filling in the missing bits on here and on ebay.

They are top quality items. If you're buying them to put them to work, I say go for it. They won't let you down. When SK entered bankruptcy a couple of years ago, I honestly wasn't concerned about losing the warranty on these. I got them used and have been hard on them for 5 years and have no worries about damaging them. Now that the 'new' SK is building nice tools and handling warranty claims, I wouldn't hesitate to buy more.

You'll have no issues expanding as sk has single wrenches available but also sells the bigger sizes in sets similar to how craftsman does. My only comment would be if you were comfortable with the length of the wrenches I personally prefer sk's long patterns. For 100$ that's a good deal

I have 6 sets of Sk's in my collection I like them and have used SK tools sense the mid 60's and they are like new. You will find with east any other wrenches you might want to put in your set. They are the best buy for the money in my opinion and I think most will agree with that statement. That is a very good price on the 2 sets as well. That is about half or less than they are going for used.

I take 23 N straight out of Portsmouth, till it become South High, then I hang a right at Livingston, which takes me straight to Childrens. Its looking like we *might* get out of here tomorrow or the next day. Fingers crossed.

I've never turned a long pattern wrench in my life, other than some ratcheting wrenches that belong to my step-father. 9 times out of 10, the stuff I'm working on doesn't really have enough room to take advantage of it. In the future, that might change (and if a used set comes along, I would certainly try to grab them).

I think every box should have longs and shorts, you never know when you'll need either. SK is a very good brand, even (most) c-man is good for 98% of what many do.

If everyone re/attached hardware at the recommended rating most tools would never have problems. Eve if you think about the warranty aspect, tools will more than likely fail after being taxed or fatigued, and I am sure most would have gotten their money's worth by then.

I like buying used, you can save big off retail pricing.

I like SK, but I'd pass at more than about $40 for the 18 wrenches. I've got plenty of wrenches though, and especially don't need more SAE.

Steven, yeah the S-K wrenches are XLNT quality.

However, resale value might be a consideration. The regular length are not as desired as the long pattern style. Depending on age, the regulars are model numbers 882XX and 883XX, while the long pattern style is 884XX I believe.

If those are the regular style then the price is high in my opinion. You can find them fairly easily at that price, albeit not in "new condition" though. But even new ones are discounted often. When "used" prices are even close to discounted new prices I tend to go with "new."

Just some thoughts, :)

I have SK wrench's and 3/8" D&S socket set. All are older up to 30 yrs or so, no issues except a torque wrench the head cracked in half. It's still in it's case, lol

Half of street price for like new/un-engraved SK is a great deal IMHO.

However you need to make sure your comparing against street price vs. MSRP. Tooltopia is probably a good site for comparison purposes since they tend to be most competitive in pricing SK.

90% of my tools are SK. Mostly from the mid 60's to 70's I have a serious amount of money invested in SK tools. I still have the majority of them. The ones I don't have grew feet and moved on. I don't see how you can get hurt for that price.
