I was thinking of painting the garage soon, and wanted to do something with some color (I hat anythin that looks ordinary). Looking at the paint dept.'s colr brochures, I thought, 'Why not paint te garage just as if it were a livin room, or kitchen?' I could go with some warmcolors, mabe a Tscan type texture, etc... I tried finding pics of this online, but haven't come across any yet. What do you guys think? My workbench area will b about 12 ft. of Maple kitchen base cabinets and a formica top(I haven't picked it's colorout yet).

Here are a few I've seen on DIY and HGTV lately.
Light blue walls, taupe floor

This one looked pretty cool, I don't think this pic does it justice, but here's a look.
Burnt orange walls, concrete floors. Floors would look great in a beige, grey as a second choice.

There are a few others, I'll search later.

My woodworking shop I did in Sherwin Williams "Roycroft Suede" (the large sample) and "Roycroft Brass" (the upper right sample) with a white ceiling and shellac finish on the trim.

The downstairs garage/shop was done in Sherwin Williams "Link Grey" with trimwork done in "Cast Iron" with galvanized ceiling (sorry, couldn't get a color sample selection for those colors).

The Sherwin Williams site offers some tools to select colors and find color schemes: http://www.sherwin-williams.com/do_it_yourself/paint_colors/

This was something I had considered too. I think a lot of the options will depend on the available light. Even though my wife is an Interior Designer, we couldn't come up with any interesting colors that reflected enough light (keep in mind I don't have any windows and only the 8' garage & 3' man-doors). I'm going with gloss off-white walls & white ceiling just for the reflective properties. The cabninets I'm going to use have red & dark grey door faces with stainless counters. Then I'm probably going to use bigfoot tiles in a B&W checkerboard pattern with a red border. I'm relying on some decorations (banners, a trophy or two, & other stuff) and the actual tools that will reside within to keep the place from looking too stark.

I'd probably consider other options for colors or decor if I had a bigger place and was setting up a more "livable" space like a small lounge or something.

ps. I was going to make a snide comment about "girly colors" in a garage but I didn't want Annette to beat me up then sick her dog on me. :)

I just think of the garage as another living room, with a mustang in it instead of a sofa.

Here's another I had in my favorites, there's something to be said for simple.
Ok, for the guys, the walls seem to be a Budweiser gold and the floors are Metal Shaving grey.

Do you have one wall that you could do in a different color and keep everything else light? Or maybe do a chair rail or divider at a 3 or four foot height with some of that checkered flag border material and paint the bottom a different color and keep the top half light/white? I think the floor is as important, if not more important for light reflection as far as working under vehicles. Everything else can be lit with fixtures.

I picked the exterior colors for my barn out of the Sherwin Williams Arts & Crafts brochure. I haven't finished the interior yet, but plan on sticking with the Arts & Crafts pallate on the trim and cabinets. Should look pretty good with the recycled bowling alley countertops.......if I can ever keep it clean.

Wow. I usually just use what's left over from the last honey-do.

The stuff they sell at the landfill for cheap (they pour together all the paint people bring in) is sort of a brownish pink. Does that count?

The inside of mine is lined with 4in center T1-11 siding. It's 20x50, with a 9ft wide wall 20ft from the front door (original garage was 20X20, it got a 20x30 extension & only cut half the original back wall out)
New 12x24ft shed is going up out back at which point the 20x30ft part reverts back to shop space instead of shop/storage. At that point I may paint the T1-11....
Local ***** bar also has painted T1-11 siding on the interior walls.. maybe I'll paint mine the same color (light grey) LOL!!

I just finished my garage addition which is 31x54x12. The walls and ceiling are a luan panelling. I painted both a semi gloss white. I have 25 4 gang florescent light fixtures and it is bright as day in that place when the lights are on. I like it. The bottom 4' of the walls are a gray color and the floor is expoxed gray. I do a good bit of work in that shop and so illumination was important to me. I sprayed the paint on which was a fast way to do it. However, it takes about twice as much paint to spray v. rolling. Good luck.

We just moved into our new house and the builder painted the garage this color. I am not sure yet if I really like it.

I did have my garage painted in almost the same colors as PATtoyota showed. Looks great but it ***** up any light that you have. When I was getting ready to paint my truck I finally had to paint the walls white just to get the amount of light needed. And that was after adding 16' of fluorescents on one side / ceiling and 16' of fluorescents on the walls. But if you just want to use quartz halogens for periodic work then that color is great.

Nice idea. Getting ready to do my new 3-bay, as soon as its built. I figure some tasty colors (tans, oranges, greys, etc.) might not get tired as soon as bright reds or black and white. Shy away from greens and blues, though unless they're grey-toned. But that's just me...
