Hi All, New member here...
It is unfortunate that my first thread here has to be something negative (not my style), but I thought I should post this for others sake (hey, that's a positive thing ;^)...
Some of us do not live close to a town, so we buy stuff online (and hope for the best).
I ordered:
1/2 in. Drive Indexable Head Ratchet
Pittsburgh Professional - item#96090
On my order it states:
1/2 in. Drive Indexable Head Ratchet Item #:96090
[Replaced by SKU: 62315]
So rather than email me telling me I have to wait till its in stock, or request a refund, they send me a 48T in stead of the 72T I ordered. About the only notable difference ...though they do have differently styled handle grips.
Nice, huh.
The representative over the phone acted very matter-of-fact that HF would simply send me a substitute - even if it is a slightly different or even seemingly slightly lesser value tool.
Of course, he offered me a refund, i.e., to send me a return envelop, and then when that processes they would credit my card on file that was used for the transaction.
Now, I cannot say for certain if the 42T is a lesser value -- it happens to be listed for more money than the 96090. All I know is I wanted the 72T version.
I decided to keep the 62315, and I will be contacting a 'local' HF to find out if they carry any of the one I want in stock. Maybe I can get a sympathetic manager to place it on hold or some such.
Purpose of this post is to let others know that HF's policy, as explained to me, is to substitute 'any similar tool' if the one you order is not actually in stock. So if you order carbide tipped screw driver set on sale, you might get those aluminum/tin ones if they run out! (I don't know if they actually carry either of those, its just a "stupid is as stupid does" example.
I let HF rep know that my concern was that this policy was inappropriate and should be changed. I.e., it is inappropriate to send me an orange because right now they are out of apples ...just because the orange is a fruit and about the same size as an apple. Instead they should contact the customer with information and appropriate options. I would have preferred to keep my order pending shipment when the proper item comes in, rather than simply be sent a lesser alternative without so much as a how-do-you-do.
Okay. Done for now I guess. Not a travesty (the sky isn't falling), thank goodness. I hope everyone is having a great holiday.
Cheers,
Twohawks

I think only a fool would come to that conclusion. That's what I think now that you asked.
