I have a "wanted" post for a Snap-on HS-2 hacksaw. Got a PM from a guy saying he has a friend with one for sale, and to email "Martin" @ janson1712@gmail.

Guy gets back to me telling me that it's in good condition and gives price. When I asked for pics, he tells me to pay thru cash app to $Loveee2022. AFTER he receives funds, he will send pics and arrange shipping.

Yea, that doesn't sound like a scam, right? HAHAHA. Do a quick search, and you will see this janson1712 listed in multiple sites as scamming people.

Is there somewhere else I should report this?

Report the PM. User will be banned. It's the same on every forum. People keep falling for this.

I got a similar PM response Aug 8 to my "wanted" for a drill press table, with instructions to reply to Martin at the same email. I noticed that the person's status is now "Banned" instead of "Junior Member" or similar description.

Most of these scammers have either very few or 0 posts. Would really like to see a minimum post count instituted before a member can send a PM.

It's like neighborhood watch. If you report it, we can take care of it. If you don't they will continue to do the same to other members.

This is why this forum runs so well, members taking care of their own.

Except for the new members that don't realize they're being scammed until it's too late - they end up reporting it after the money's gone.

I still think that limiting the ability to PM until a minimum post count is met is a good idea. If a new member not yet meeting the min post count had an issue that needed a moderator's help, they could post in "Questions & Suggestions".

I disagree due to my own experience. I was banned from GJ at one point. Betcha didn't expect that, eh? Well *I* sure didn't!

I was banned because I posted something that was misunderstood (completely) and the ban hammer fell. I was shocked, but also learned how actually *difficult* it was to seek redress. I had no way to appeal to the mods as I couldn't sign in, even with a new name, etc (ip block). My point is that it was very very frustrating to be involuntarily incommunicado. I was eventually able to get resolution through contacting mods at HAMB and pleading my case indirectly.

The problem with being a new member is you don't yet know your way around and you might well need assistance. Being unable to PM simply because they are NEW is just going to make them give up and that's not how to build the place. *MAYBE*, if they could still PM MODS, that would work; If they were presented with a message explaining the restriction whenever they tried to PM.

Somewhere I bet there is a legit Nigerian prince wondering why no Americans trust his poor honest soul. 😂

Nigeria's a republic. It's got a President, a Senate, and a House of Representatives. Lotsa Nigerians would be surprised to hear they had a prince, too.
