I bought a 3pc Craftsman U-Joint set and the 3/8" one is really loose. It can't even hold itself up anymore. I was wondering if I can take it back to Sears for a replacement. Today is my day off and I didn't want to waste a trip to the shop, then to Sears. Can they claim abuse?

I was doing a set of plus on a 2001 Grand Cherokee 4.7L when it went limp whilst doing the back plugs. I got it done, but not without some choice 4 letter words.

Thanks

I don't know why they wouldn't exchange it. Ask them to show you where abuse is a non-warantable item. Last time I asked them they gave me a ratchet rather than argue.

One trick I found to make the job with a worn wobble socket is to wrap a few wraps of electrical tape tightly around the swivel section. Tape will hold it in postion long enough to get on the bolt but will still flex. I've saved several hours with that trick.

Excellent. Thanks. I'm not usually one to *****, but aren't U Joints supposed to stay tight? I mean I have universal sockets from GearWrench and have ripped on those things HARD and they are still super tight.

I dont see why they would say anything about abuse. Have you seen there comercials? Sockets for golf balls, wrenches for pulling trucks. You will be fine ive never had sears not exchange a tool.

From the Sears "America's Tool Headquarters" 2011 catalog -

"Guaranteed Forever/Craftsman Hand Tool Warranty: If any Craftsman hand tool ever fails to provide complete satisfaction, return it to any Sears store or other Craftsman outlet in the United States for free repair or replacement."

Clearly, you are not satisfied. At least, not completely.

As said you should not have a problem..

I have had trouble twice.. One time they wouldn't exchange a ratchet for a new one instead they offered a ratchet that was used as a hammer, run over, beat on, etc.

And I had a problem with them warranting a "professional" soldering gun because "I used it in a commercial environment". ( Had a work shirt on )

I don't fight with them.. Just look up the corporate offices.. Both times I got a call from the store director apologizing and a follow up from corporate.
