Warranty on Snap On Tool box..

well... I just cant win.

Snap on dealer came by yesterday morning with a brand new krl1023. I have had a new stainless top at the house for about a month waiting on the box so today was the day to switch everything over.

emptied my entire box, rolled new box off the truck and grabbed the stainless to put it on and its warped crazy. each end is pulled up past the top edge of the box, and is only making contact in the middle of the box. coincidentally, the riser only makes contact on both ends where the stainless is pulling up, making for a gap across the back of the riser where it meets the stainless top..

not sure what im going to do. my dealer wants me to let it sit like this for a bit to see if the weight of the riser forces the wood under the stainless to level back out.. if not..gonna have to swap the stainless piece again, or, I dont know.

the pics are hard to show it but you can kinda see.

in the first pic, that particle board is supposed to be well below the metal lip.

wow! that is not good... new box with new top stainless but it still have a problems.... that reason i dont want work on my box so i just put KRL1203 Top chest on it and call done...

I could see the dealers point. Give it a try. He was cool about swapping it out, why not just wait and see if he's correct. I would most certainlt nail down a time frame though. This way a year from now, your still not dealing with this.

no, I definitely agree. anythings possible in terms of whether it will settle, but I doubt it.

and I should note this: through this whole ordeal, I could not ask for a better dealer to help resolve this. If everyone had a dealer like mine, there probably wouldnt be so much hatred for snap on dealers..

He showed up yesterday morning, on his day off, an hour from his house, with my new box, at 7:30am... I couldnt ask for better service from him and his regional manager in regards to this.

now I just have to see how it plays out. im just glad to get my box back in order.

Thats too bad your still having problems; you would think if it wasn't right from the get go, something is wrong... I wonder if this is a common issue? Well, at least the box is not bent but just the top is the problem now; which can be replaced, right? By the way; got a overall shot of your new box?

lol, you wouldnt want to see what I did to the new box...

the garage im storing it in barely fits it, so I taped up all the drawer edges with green masking tape so they dont get scratched. ill probably come back and tape up the entire front of the box, its that tight in there im afraid someone squeezing by will scratch it.

maybe ill throw a pic up in a bit

Whatever you do, don't clamp that warped [censored] stainless top to that NEW box!!

correct, top is not being bolted to box, nor is riser being screwed into top. gonna let it sit there for a week or 2, wait for it NOT to settle in the correct fashion, then call my dealer back and figure out if we are going to swap the stainless again, or i'll ask them to just credit me for the stainless top and hutch since i cant use it without a top on it, and i dont care for thebutcher block. dont really need the hutch anymore as im not in a shop environment..

anyone want to buy a hutch lol???

just not a fan, and ive had them in the past and dont like when they get dinged up..

if anything, i would just cut my own butcher block and then linex it.

I much prefer to use the top as a workbench.

at my old shop, table space was at a premium so I just got used to using the top of the box. where its currently stored, there is absolutely no table top space available.

no, it was laying on the floor with boxes etc stored on top of it. maybe 40 pounds in the boxes etc.

How much would a solid piece of 1/4" steel plate going across that box weigh? I've seen guys to that, but with smaller boxes though. Some guys even powder coat them first.
