Warranty on Torx Sockets

I have 2 T50 sockets that are rounded off and I wanted replaced. I did both of these on other errands so no special trip.

#1 is a Great Neck. I went to Auto Zone and all they have now is Duralast. Counter person said they can't help me because they don't sell them anymore. It says lifetime warranty right on it. One source I saw says that Great Neck makes Duralast Torx sockets.

#2 is a Lisle. I went to O'Reilleys and they would not warranty without a receipt. I asked the counter punk if he kept receipts on a lifetime warranty tool that was 10 years old and he didn't have a comment. I walked out.

I realize that we are talking about less than $10 for both, but it still bugs me. I went on Ebay and bought a Snap-On and it should last me.

Anybody have luck warranting Great Neck or Lisle without sending them back? It's not worth the postage for that.

I have warrantied Lisle at Sears before, my local NAPA also will warranty Lisle stuff.

Why not go directly to the companies? Thats what I usually try to do.

I know you need to wait for the new socket, but its better than running around in my opinion.

I thought they were kind of like drill bits, taps, and dies - when you break them, you buy new ones.

t45 are not warrant ably on the cheap set I have so have snap on in that size breaks plenty

This stuff really makes me think more about the HF stuff with the warranty. They just might be around for a while........

Never had an issue. But, I also willingly paid more for the Snap-On set to not have a problem. When I twist one into a drill bit, or break one, it's a matter of calling my SO dealer to find out where he is. (Quit the dealership business about 3 years ago, so I have to go to him)

Torx are made of either glass, or silly putty. I know of no warranty that is available.

I have had sears replace a few of my craftsman without any question, cheap china or not warranty works well

I had no issue warrantying my mastercraft torx socket from Canadian Tire.

Great neck was carried by AZ before Duralast. They should have warrantied it in my opinion.

Interesting timing on this thread. I just destroyed a Snap On T50 and a Lisle this past week thing to get out rusted seat belt bolts. Soaked with PB Blaster and ordered a Sunex impact T50 to try.

Broke a 3/8 drive Husky T55 from home depot and twisted the teeth on a 1/2 drive pittsburgh pro impact T55 from harbor freight on the rear calipers on a 2001 2500hd. The Husky broke off due to the 1/2 breaker bar on the first caliper bolt. The pittsburgh got the first three caliper bolts out, but on the last bolt my dumb *** didnt have a good handle on the 3/4 impact and socket wasnt seated all the way into the bolt and twisted the end.

Both HD and HF replaced them no questions asked.

OTC does not warranty theirs if used on an impact.Says inside of the lid of the case.

I warranty a t55 almost monthly through snap on with no issues. My dealer is kind enough to make us a custom socket with the gold bit pressed into a half inch socket so they don't round off so frequently.

Before that I did the same with Cornwell and had zero issues.

I am going to retry AutoZone on the Great Neck. The socket says right on it "lifetime guarantee".

I will try NAPA on the Lisle. I see no reason why they shouldn't. It is part of a multi-piece box set. I hate to have holes in a set.

No hurry on either. I will do as part of other errands. Again, I realize the dollar value on this is low. It is more of a principle to me.

Both rounded off adding 3rd row seat brackets to an '07 Tahoe. The video online shows them taking out the luggage restraint brackets that hold the carpet down with an 18V cordless drill. Lets just say that didn't work for me.

If it is a two.piece socket,bit one I pull the bit pitch it and buy a snap on replacement bit to place on the socket. Bought half my husky st now has snap on bits in them.

Update:

Went back to AutoZone and spoke to the manager. He upgraded me to the 2 piece style.

Went back to O'Reillys and talked to a different counter guy. We swapped me out after doing some extensive typing.

So, persistence paid off.

Kinda what I was thinking, honestly. These damn things are consumables, no matter what brand.

I cannot begin to fathom why so many stupid engineers spec stupid torx heads on stupidly large bolts with no stupid corrosion protection and stupidly shallow button heads ($0.0005 cheaper or something). Aaarrggghhhh.
