Needed a 14 m X 1.5 my set only goes up to 12.
I will have to order one on e bay I guess.
Went to tractor supply, no good, went to busy beaver, no good, went to lowes, no good, and Ace hardware no good.
Busy beaver and lowes had no taps at all. Tractor supply had a few, Ace had a pretty good stock of standard size, no metric.
Would have thought between 1 of those stores.

I can get USA made Irwins at my local mom and pop hdwre in M14x1.50 fine thread all day. Taper taps, not plug or bottoms. And they stock them.
Can order in the other two.

I went to lowes for a 1/4-20 tap and bit. They said they don't carry taps or dies by more!!! I walked round looking and sure enough couldn't find anything.

Fastenal in your area? They usually have a decent selection, but only your standard sizes. I dono, 14 x 1.5 doesn't seem like a normal size to me, probly your best bet is to order it.

My favorite for common size taps/dies that Im missing/breaking is our local Rural King. USA Irwins are ~$4 and seem to last well.

NAPA auto parts has 'em. Whenever I need a specialty tap, including metric that's where I go. They sell 'em packaged individually.

You just need to skip the consumer stores, any pro store should work, NAPA, or Graingers etc. Mcmaster Carr is real handy for that sort of thing as they "have it all" no shopping needed just know what you want and order and its delivered in a few days.

I might give rural king a call.

The NAPA we have in town has 1 qt of oil on the shelf.
Bridgeport Auto (NAPA) has more, but are closed Sunday.
I was sick most of the day yesterday.

It's a very common size for European lug nuts/lug bolts. It's a fine thread M14.

Thus why most parts houses carry them.

That's surprising that they carry the taper taps only. most common would be the plug taps, and that is what I have found at places that don't carry all three styles.

That's strange that they would carry only the taper taps; any place I have seen that doesn't carry all 3 styles will only have plug taps.

so far auto zone only has a 14 X 1.25
Advance "don't have nothing that big"
looks like Rural King only has up to 12 MM

l called Rural King , he asked me "what it was for"
I told him "It was a tap, you use it for what ever you want".
Then a woman got on the phone and said
"she don't think they have anything in there system like that"

I found one at a place called Specialty Supply in Wheeling. He said they only had it in what he called a "bottoming tap", But I thought a bottoming tap was cut cleanly all the way to the bottom. This one did taper about 1/4" from the bottom.
In this picture, I would say it's more like the "Plug Tap" shown.
I got it to work OK, I centered it on my lathe.

I always go to the local mom n pop hardware stores for that stuff. On my old S10 I needed a M11 (WTF right?) tap for the head bolt holes. they had it. I don't even bother with the big-box stores for taps, lowes had spots on the shelf for 3 sizes the last time I was there.

Most of the people on the phone at rural king don't seem to know their **** from a hole in the ground. I tried getting a price on oil to match it at oreilly and they said they didn't think they carried that brand or size jug (5 qt mobil 1 ~$25) I had just been there the day before for something else and saw it as I was walking by.

Yeah, we really don't have a mom and pop hardware here any more.
Rural King is a good 20 miles one way, so didn't feel like driving there.
There is a Kennedy Hardware in town, they might have had it, I did not try there. Probably about $25.00 there if they had it though.
Busy Beaver, yeah, it's a lumber yard, construction grade mostly, I wouldn't call it "Old School" Not this one at least.
Pretty well like Lowes, or Home Depot, but worse. Less selection, and more money for the same thinmgs.
