Soooo... I decided to hit eBay. Figured I would see what was on there. Owning a few truck brands of tools, I can say that I do like them. Got nothing against high end tools. I own a smattering of stuff, and kind of a little bit of everything.

I figured I would hunt decent used truck brand stuff. Add variety, extend functionality etc. Plus, I just like really well made stuff. I plan to expand, enhance, and upgrade as time goes on above what I already own.

I was just poking around to see what I could grab in an opportunistic sense. Got outbid on a couple older Mac ratchets (I really like the presentation of their products)...I started to eyeball socket sets. my 1/4" sockets are kind of cheapies being Chinese Craftsman shallows, and Stanley deeps.

I managed to grab a set of Mac 1/4" drive sockets. It would have been a 12pc set, but it is missing the 10mm. The set is used, but not abused looking. I can always fill in the 10mm from what I have, or just cough up the few bucks to fill the gap. Either way I think I'd end up ahead. Price was $22.70 after shipping. Waiting for them to ship. I'll be righteously pissed if they don't show up. Provided that the seller isn't some welcher, was this a score?

No. I really am curious if I got a deal, an ok deal, or a screaming deal.
I don't know much about what tool truck stuff goes for 2nd hand. I've never bought second hand tool truck brands. I bought the stuff that I do have either off the truck, or off the website. I know that most Mac socket sets run $100+ new, regardless of drive size (by looking at their horrible website).

I believe that 50-60% of new price is reasonable... but I do not know what the norm is for such things, because I haven't delved that deep into it yet. I just had what I thought would be an easy enough price to pay in my head, and refused to go over it (and the auction didn't quite reach it, so bonus).

Mac and matco sockets have no where near snap on sockets resale value..used Mac sockets are some of the best bang for your buck. Use them enjoy them. Yes you got a good deal.

Good to know. I know Matco costs a pretty penny new. I haven't looked to see what those are running. I am in the market for more 3/8 drive goodies. Opportunism pays I think.

Hopefully you will not encounter any shady ebay sellers. I've run into a couple however everything was ultimately made right with no negative feedback.

I actually have scored quite a few things off there for really cheap. My best most recent score was a brand new Proto 5450XLBL long 1/2 ratchet in black oxide for $15.

Edit: if I didn't already have metric deep sockets I would have been on that. As stated used Mac tools are a great value. I say you ****.

Been three days since I won the auction. I've had no confirmation or anything. Starting to wonder if I need to contact eBay/Paypal? I sent payment immediately after I won the auction. Auction did not have a reserve price. Emailed the seller yesterday. No reply. Thoughts? I am used to much more expedient action and communication in my eBay transactions.

as long as they are still in good usable condition you got a hell of a deal

even if some of them have heavy wear you might be able to get them warrantied out

I have had a couple like that lately, the tools did show up, but it made me kinda anxious. %99 of the time I receive a tracking # and it shows up in just a few days. I think some of the very low volume sellers are not as quick to give updates and answer their messages.

Funny, I have that same set and broke the 10mm many years ago. What's up with 10mm?!
Replaced it with a Kobalt I think.

used a lot or lost...

rolls away, happens to be just the right size to fall into a drain grate

sudden unexpected game of engine bay plinko

someone who lost their borrows yours when you aren't looking and "forgets"

it's underneath the tire machine, you'll find it on your last day at the shop

All of the above are very possible. I panic a little every time I drop something. I've lost three LED lights to trailers and vans. Left pliers in the upper inner ledge of a trailer. Pretty sure I crushed a screwdriver today. I'll find out tomorrow. Broken sockets, dropped and rolled sockets...especially when out on road call. Thankfully this little set is for my home collection.
