Wash bay curtains?

So I built my garage with the front half sloped to drains in front of each of the garage doors. I did this to allow the snow, ice, and other garbage to melt off the cars and not puddle in the bays. I also wanted the ability to rinse off the salt and grime from our MN roads during the winter. May also try to dual purpose the space as a powder coating/paint booth for the occasional times I dabble with such a project.

Now that my first winter in this house is upon us I’m looking to install a couple of curtains on tracks along each side of the one bay. Now I could buy a purpose built wash bay curtain setup for a $1000+, but it doesn’t seem to be worth it. I’ve searched the forum and have not been able to find any real good pictures or details on a DIY setup like this.

Looking around I’ve found some decent cost effective track setups that will be flexible and allow me to build a nice track, but I’m struggling to find a quality waterproof curtain/tarp to fit the bill.

Any info/pictures of your setups would be greatly appreciated.

I work in the Hydro shop at work, a shop space we perform hydrostatic testing on piping assemblies. Around the hydro table we installed a curtain to contain spraying water. Hung a piece of 3/4" pipe around the table from the overhead. Hung a couple weld curtains from the 3/4" pipe using shower curtain hooks. Simple but effective.

A few of the large silver tarps from HF should work just fine for curtains.

Roll up. I wash outside, have a hot washer and leave the grime out but do thaw and dry inside.
Minute or 2 to put down, 3 to put up with boat winch.

What are you using for the curtains and where did you get it? I like the fact that they are semi-transparent.

Common 8 mill rolled plastic. I used a 5 inch alum irrigation pipe for the roll but my ceiling is tall although I used 4 inch on the end. The side is 40 ft long.
The side I have 3 ropes, 3/16 nylon to a manual boat winch. The end is so much shorter I simply pull them and wind them up on a bracket.
One end of the rope is tied in the ceiling, goes doqn under the roll and back up to the ceiling, thru a pulley and to the winch. I snug it all up when down and it just tumbles or rolls up, really simple and I have the top of the sheet duct tape to a purlin, super simple.
When I did this had visions of teplacing the sheet on occasion but it's been there almost 25 years now, had to tape it a bit once. Only damage ever was s dipstick sprayed a little on it and leaned a quartz light on it, little hole I taped over.
When I was designing had visions of a fixxed paint booth and sooooo glad I didnt. I use the spa e mote for orher stuff noe, it works so well, about as good as some booths I been in and can move the walls for setup, so much better.

That’s like the stuff I used in my old garage where I made a very quick make shift paint booth. Although I think it was only 3-4mil thick. I’ll have to see about getting the thicker stuff. I pulled the trigger on the flexible guide rail with the trolley hooks. 20m worth at ~$120. Should give me plenty to make two walls. I’ll post pics when everything is said and done.
