Does anyone have a regular full size washer and dryer in their garage. I have an extra set and I was thinking it would be nice to use them for washing rags and real dirty work clothes. I will have a plumbing since there will be a 1/2 bath.

Your wife will love you more. She may even come out and operate them for you just to keep your greasy clothes out of the house!

Unless you've got the worlds biggest garage, it seems like a big waste of space to me. If you've got that much extra room, how about adding a shower to that half bath? Your wife may prefer to keep greasy you out of the house more than the greasy clothes.

Speaking from the wife's point of view, the extra washer/dryer would be more desirable than a shower. I'm about to install a second unit in our kennel for the same reason, to have a place to wash the really yucky stuff and not gunk up the house units.

How about stacking them? You might have to relocate controls for this, but since they're for yucky stuff, I'm guessing this might not be a problem.

My thought also,. Stack them up or better yet are the front load machines for using allot less water and eclectic, besides operating cost (but cost more to buy). Good Idea...H

Are the rags really oily? I don't think I'd want to put that kind of stuff through my septic.

Or just buy cheap rags and toss 'em when they get too bad to use. I don't know about you buy I just have a ton of crappy t shirts I use in the garage. I only pitch one when it rips or if it just gets really bad.

The washer is a front loader so I can put a dryer on top, the only thing is the dryer I have is not meant to be stacked the controls are on the top.

As far as space goes I should have mentioned that I will only be putting one car in the garage. The other half of the garage is just workspace for my shop.

We have thoroughly enjoyed having an extra washer and dryer in the garage, and wouldn't hesitate to do it again! They can be seen in the background in the picture below. In addition to accommodating dirty rags and such, the setup has been perfect for stripping off dirty gardening clothes and washing them without any risk of tracking a mess into the house.

I think you will be happy. I wash my rags, etc. in "Greased Lightening" and use no softeners as that can leave a surface contaminated if you want to paint, etc. I earned alot of "wife points" not doing greasy clothes, etc. in house appliances. An old electric range comes in handy also for heating stuff, etc.

I have a washer, no dryer in mine. I do like it. I didn't plan on having one, but I kinda had the perfect spot for one, so I put it in.

I'm going to put the extra washer and dryer out there; will stack them to save space. They should fit fine next to bathroom. See rough diagram.
