My wife and I put in an offer on a home that has a Washer and Dryer in the Garage. We live in Florida, so the house sits on a concrete slab. Is there an easy way to move them out of the garage? If so, is it going to be an expensive project? I would really like the space to be used in a different way.

Well, you need 240V wiring + incoming/outgoing plumbing + dryer vent exhaust.

None of those 3 are particularly hard, the problem is that to do it right, you'd need an electrician, AND a plumber.

Or if you're feeling lucky, a one-size-fits-all handyman/appliance installer could do it.

Unless of course, you have gas appliances. Then you'd just need 120v service. But then you'd also need to have a gas line nearby.

As stated....it can all be done. A lot of it depends on where in the house you want to put it and what services are nearby.

The waste line seems like potentially the trickiest one due to the slab construction.

I moved mine when I bought my last home in 2011. There is really no way to answer your question. Define expensive. Where are you going to put it? Are you going to have to build out a room or closet? Are you moving it upstairs? Is there electric, water supply and drain lines nearby? Is there an attic or other provisions to easily run the lines? (there wasn't in my case except for the drain line because i moved them upstairs and could tap into lines on first floor). Permitting issues?

In the end it cost me 5k or something to build out a closet a bit more to fit and run all the lines etc and drip pan and i did a bunch of other work. to me that wasn't expensive but don't know in your case

Do they sit up against a shared wall of the house? If so can the washer and dryer be relocated inside the house on that shared wall? If both of these answers are yes, than relocation is quite easy.

Otherwise there are a lot of factors to consider to answer this properly. Does the location you want to relocate them to have water available? drain? gas or electric service? Is your water lines buried in the slab or reouted thru the attic? How close is your service panel? See where I am going here?

Unfortunatley this is one of those items that cannot be really answered without seeing it or having detailed information from someone who has.

Actually, a washer & dryer is one of the easier things to relocate since a washer can pump water vertically to allow gravity to carry the water to a drain.

I suggest mounting them on the opposite side of the wall from an existing kitchen sink or bathroom sink, or on an exterior wall near where the sewer leaves the house. With PEX you can get fresh water to just about anywhere, it's the drain that will need to be within 8-10' of an existing sink on the same wall to make things easier.

Minor smartazz warning...but I'd do it,duh.

Just convince wifeypoo that W/D,MUST go in house. Then you keep receptacle,AND vent for your new Lincoln wire welder...problem solved, all parties happy.
