A little post for a little job. But I'm still proud of myself for it.

My waterheater failed last week so I had to have a new one put in this weekend. This one was put in when the house went up in 2002 and there was no pan so the box was soaked:

Apparently it was also the trashcan for the crew before it got closed up.

I ripped the drywall (wetwall?) off of it and was horrified at what a blatant waste of space and material it was. So in the morning before the plumber was to come I picked up a sheet of 3/4 cabinet grade and made this:

Yay! Almost 4 sqft of free new floorspace. Go me!

Awesome! Now, If you put a water heater blanket on that water heater, in a few years you will save enough $ to pay for the plywood, too.

Yup, I've been all over that thread today. Eventually I'll be doing that above the door.

Nice. Every Sq foot counts. Quick thinking before the plumber got their. I probably wouldn't have thought of it until 6 months after the new W/H went in. If even then.

I'm not planning on covering it with anything, until I build my cabinets at which point it will match all the rest of them.
