So I wake up this morning to let my dog out and notice my shed in the back yard wide open, my commercial walk behind in the middle of my yard and my big Ariens snow blower gone. They used a crowbar to pry the hasp off and break it in two, with the lock still attached. I have a flood light on my house that lights the whole back yard and the previous owners had the utility company put a light pole back there that is always on at night also. How sick are you of lowlifes? I live in a middle class, nice neighborhood, full of old people. This really pisses me off! Looks like I will be moving all of my equipment off site and beefing up security.

I just put locks on everything this week (new house). A group of surveyors came through my backyard without asking permission. They had no ill intent but they scared the **** out of my wife and I ended up coming out there with my pistol. My two dogs almost got out as well.
They were not aware of who owned the back half of my property but they also didn't bother checking. Surveyors know that there is a website that shows who owns what in our county. A quick check of that and a knock on my door would have prevented them staring at the business end of my .45
However, at least they provided me with the motivation to go put a lock on everything. I should have done that back in July when I bought the house.

Keep an eye on the local CL ads and bulletin boards. Maybe the crooks will be dumb enough to post the stuff for sale.
And what was your dog doing while all this was happening? But seriously, living in a nice (or even gated) community = squat. Like Willie Sutton said when asked "Why do you rob banks?" "Because that's where the money is". These days everything has to be double-bolted, alarmed, chipped, engraved and on video.

Of course you do. Where else would thieves go to steal good stuff? In the low-rent neighborhood, the mower is sitting outside by the garage, because the lawn is dead, it doesn't run and it's rusted out anyway.
I've been contemplating this as well. I have a cheesy little clasp on my shed doors...installing a lock would only prevent me from getting in. Ideally I'd like to put some kind of boot over the wheel of the blower. If they want it, let them carry 300 lbs.

If they want it, they will steal it. Thieves are usually lazy, or they would work for stuff instead of stealing it. Make them work to get it by securing it well, and they will move on to someone else's stuff that is easier to steal.
The whole thing just pisses me off. I am trying not to become a bitter, cynical and angry person, but it is starting to really be hard not to be. Everything within me believes it to be some complete waste of space crackhead that doesn't have a job, lives off of our tax dollars and been in and out of jail his whole life.

"Well, you have insurance" we kept hearing.
Yeah... with a $500 deductible on each vehicle. So I was out $1,000 plus raised insurance rates.
$1,000 on $36K a year gross is a hit you feel.
All because some scumbags wanted the change in our ashtrays.

Sorry to hear about the theft; I've been robbed and it's a feeling that stays with you long after the 'stuff' is replaced.
Keep an eye on CL for sure. A guy I live near owns a fenced, lighted storage facility with camera security. About two months ago, he shows me where some low life scum cut a hole through the cyclone fencing directly behind a customers boat. They stole the kicker motor off the stern by cutting the lock and got his autopilot too. The owner lives hours away, but kept checking CL for his stuff. He got lucky. He got these clowns to drive hours to meet with him at a public place to 'buy' the motor. They came, and when they produced the motor, the local cops were waiting to cuff them. The owner of the lot said the perps ran the motor to show the owner it worked; no cooling water (!), but the owner didn't care as he already received the insurance payment for both stolen items. Perps were local to the area, but it looks like they have a new 'home' now. lol

Kids come out and steal stuff from my backyard all the time. I have caught them multiple times. One I scared so bad he cried. I live in a nice neighborhood so it def doesn't matter where you live. If they find something they want they'll take it

The neighbor kids I was helping out came back and ripped me off. Don't let neighbors kids know what you have. About, chack the local pawn shops, they have to hold stuff for 60 days, require id and prints.
Desperate enough for what? To feed your family or buy drugs/booze? The "feed your family" types are typically shoplifters stealing food from the grocery store.

My next door friend and co worker woke up to breaking glass at 9:45 am we both work swing shift to find a punk crawling in through the broken window he just used a claw hammer on my friend empted his 38 in to him the punk went out on a stretcher with a tag on his toe law said no charges will be filed.
I have been checking Craigslist all day. I also called all the Pawn shops. No luck yet. I would love some justice. I realize in the grand scheme of things this is not that big of a deal, but right now it is. I'm sitting here wondering if they will be back tonight. That... would not be a good idea. The other thing that pisses me off is that some ***** is gonna buy it for some ridiculous price knowing it has to be stolen, to get it for so cheap. What is wrong with people these days? I will be welding up bars for my one garage window. I have a buddy coming to get the mower and the trailer that was parked back there too. I am brainstorming ideas on how to better secure the shed. The fence for the yard is coming next summer anyway, do to my son getting old enough to run around. Maybe some well placed trail cams????

I'd put the longest, heaviest eye bolt I could find in about 3 feet of concrete and use the heaviest chain & lock I could find to bolt it down. Because I know (unfortunately) that wouldn't stop the lowlifes I'd be SO tempted to wire an electric fence charger onto the hasp so if there is a next time the EFFER gets the shock of his life when he tries to put a crow bar in there.

The chain has been cut off my ranch 4 times this year. They have already stolen everything but keep breaking in.I dont even lock what is left of the doors anymore.I just go in and close all the doors and cabinets and then lock the gate again.
Today I made some of those "star" looking things to put in the gravel drive.Maybe I can at least screw up their tires. My wife said "oh yea ,piss them off ,and they will burn it down. The sheriff is worthless.
When I go now I carry my SKS w/a 30 in it and my hi cap 9mm. I dont want to kill them unless they threaten me but I sure would like to use a 9 iron on them. Then they would sue and own my ranch. You cant win for loosing.

I have managed to make it nearly 50 years with out stealing somebody elses ****, so can everybody else.
And as for the guy who shot his son, I'm sure it's killing him, but if his son hadn't been a jack *** he probably wouldn't have gotten shot.

Why not beef it up a little? Do you have an alarm system in your home? You can easily add the shed as another zone. If not, you can install a motion-activated alarm inside the shed. Sub-human dirtbags hate noise.
