I bought our new house in march and it came with a 31x27 detached garage which is great. One question i had was what do i do with this water hookup that has no drain? Why was it put there? Garage is only 4 years old.

You can see the black hose coming through the concrete behind the nerf bars i got leaning against the fridge.

Hose to wash cars?
Hose to fill radiator?
Drinking fountain?

If you want to install a sink I would run a drain through the wall and into a plastic tub that I hurried and then I would make a small septic type files into the flower beds or under the grass if you just want a hand wash sink

Im not sure its water. The previous owner who had the garage built said water. There is no valve for it he just said if i wanted to hook it up i would need to have it tied into the meeter in the front yard

Is that duct tape and some string sticking out?
They will do that for electric conduit a lot of times. Keeps dirt and bugs out and string to tie future wire to for pulling wire through conduit.

Find the other end. It either goes to the house or the meter pit.

If it goes to the house and you don't need water in the garage use it to pull phone or network cable.

Or run compressed air back to the house if the pipe can take the pressure.

So it is just a piece of pipe not hooked up to anything.

Looks like typical black polyethylene used for a buried water service line. Find the other end and it could be used to supply cold water to garage. No drain is required if you intend to use as a water spigot. You will need a drain if you intend to use it for a utility sink,

Do you have an air compressor?

Can you possibly shove an air hose down it, seal it up, turn on the air and see if you can hear air leaking out somewhere.

I was thinking icemaker but dont they need a drain too?

No. Not the kind in a residential refer.

What you have is the rough in. That line has never been pressurized or else it would have blown the tape off. The other end, as he told you, is out near the meter and likely just taped off as well. You have no idea how deep it is buried so it is risky to use. If it freezes and bursts due to shallow bury, your house will also lose water.

The previous owner was thinking ahead but just didn't execute the project and left you with a questionable start on doing it yourself. I would probably abandon that thing and start over. If you could find the other end, I would install a valve before tying in to the house service.

^ ^ ^ ^ Go buy a PVC fitting with 1/2" threaded hole on one side, and smooth inside on other that matches pipe size. Glue the fitting on hose. Screw in airline quick connect in the 1/2" thread female hole and let your compressor go to town!! :D

Eventually you'll figure out what's on the other end.

This is how I blow out sprinkler system and works great. Once you've figured out what you have, then put a plug in that 1/2" hole instead of the airline quick connect. This will keep debris out of your pipe until you do what you want to do. ;)
