I have a garage that was built in the 1950s. The exterior is stucco, and on the inside, some of the tarpaper is failing. I also had to replace some studs due to termite activity, which also caused some of the damage to the tarpaper. After a big rain, I noticed some water coming into to the garage through the walls near the bottom of the wall. After much reading, many say the only option is to remove the stucco and replace the tar paper, but that’s not in the cards here.
Does anyone have any thoughts on a cost effective way to enhance water proofing from the inside out? Maybe it won’t be 100%, but hopefully it can be better than it is now. Eventually, I’d like to cover the walls with plywood, so I’m looking for ideas on how to keep this dry without stating over.
