During a discussion about the magnetic HF paper towel roll holder on @NUTTSGT thread. Post # 5124
I posted this towel holder I made for our flat top grill at my wife’s request.
NUTTSGT suggested I post the details of how I made it.

The finished product on the shelf of the flat top

This next step is what made this project very easy.

The hole bored in the center of each end was made with an 1 1/4” forstner bit. This dia. is a nice light interference fit on the HF magnetic holder.
The disk pops on and off easily but is held stationary by the magnetic ends.

No fine woodworking found here.

I used 4” PVC drain pipe (thin wall) not schedule 40. Overall length of pipe used was 13”.
The pipe has an 1 1/2” hole drilled for finger access as well a 5/8” slot cut on my router table.IMG_5521.jpeg
Each end consists of (1) 5” disk, (1) 4” disk, and (1) 3” length of 1 3/8” dowel rod. For the disks I used 3/4” stock.

The 1 3/8” dowel is not an exact requirement. It’s probably what I had in stock.

You just want to use a diameter that will allow the cardboard tube of the towel roll to turn easily on the dowel.
In use the outer pvc pipe stays stationary while the roll of towels turns on the dowel.

Note: If you use 4” drain pipe like I did you wont be able to load the holder with a full roll of towels.
We’ve never found that to be a problem

I probably used this circle cutting jig on my bandsaw to cut the disks

This circle cutter used in a drill press could also be used

A saber saw could be used but remember……this is GJ. Making a jig or buying tools is highly recommended.

No primer.
Just painted it with some red paint I had on hand that matched the Snap-on tool box drawer I installed on the bottom shelf. You can kinda see the drawer in the first photo.

I have a similar HF magnetic paper towel holder and despise it as it won't accept full rolls.
I didn’t realize that.
My need to use partial rolls was dictated by 4” pipe I used that was in stock.
