Yesterday I was taking pictures of the parts that were on my T-30 234 IR compressor. I found that the water separator (Graco 106149 I believe) was connected backwards to the tank. It's been on there for years, I can tell by the dirt and rusted connections. I bought this used. Will these things work being hooked up like that. In addition, how the heck do they work. I unscrewed the bowl and a lot of water and dirt came out. So did the assembly. Now I don't know how to put it back together. They are still available but cost around $125.00. I'd like to put it back on the correct way but first I need to reassemble it.

It may catch some moisture when plumbed backwards, but not nearly as much as if it was plumbed correctly.

Here's a diagram for reassembly:

Thanks, I don't have what ever that is at the bottom of the bowl. I'm guessing that is that automatic drain that is mentioned at times.

How they work....

Air comes in the filter, there is a slight restriction at the intake or due to swirl device at the intake, causing a slight cooling causing some condensation. If a swirl device is in place, the swirling causes water droplets to condense against the wall of the filter. Also the wall of the filter is likely to be cooler than the intake air, also causing condensation. The swirling action causes water droplets which already formed before the filter, in the air line, to drop into the bowl. As to to the efficiency of a coalescing filter, it is limited, and over sized filters do the best job. Best used with a cooling coil before the filter.

I tried buying a 20 micron filter using kit number 108035 but had no luck finding it anywhere.
This compressor is from 1976. You can buy the Graco assembly, but I can't find parts availble for it.

I got a response from Graco. They said the kit is no longer available. Strange! You can buy the 106149 filter yet, but they won't sell the filter kit. I don't get it.
Anyway I purchased one from E-bay.
If I need another, I guess I'll go with a different manufacture. ARO has a nice one but expensive.

or just buy a stock of filters now, while you can. While they are still made / available, or before the World clenches up about another illness, or while your money is still worth something.

If you need another filter, ask the sellers on Ebay for a measurement of the filter they are selling, many companies sell the same exact filter, or one you can cut to fit your filter.
Got it. Thanks
