I think it's time to replace a new one. I installed a Fleck 5600SXT 48,000 six months ago, which removes moderately hard water and a small amount of iron, creating soft water through a built-in flow meter to ensure freshness and reduce waste. This water softener is suitable for families of 4-6 people. Generally, the resin needs to be replaced once every six months.

resin replaced every six months? If you have that bad of water quality -- you've got bigger problems. Depending on the water coming in -- the media/resin should go 7 - 10yrs before needing a re-bed -- actually we usually just do a complete tank swap. Most tank manufacturers -- Enpress, Clack, Structural --- have a 10 year warranty -- I don't like to re-bed a tank that is at or near warranty expiration [most should have a date of manufacture on the tank label] -- just seems to me to be asking for trouble down the road -- new media in an old tank.
