I have a Mark 40 water softner that is eating the salt up, I just put a 50 lb. block in it on Sept. 13 ( last Thursday ) and today it is gone. The water softner is suppose to recharge every 3 days and use roughly 12 lb. of salt each recharge, about 25 lb. of salt per week. I just used a 50 lb. block of salt in less then a week WTF ?? I had a Culligan man come and check it in the spring for the same reason, he fixed it and charged me $80.00,, i,am not going to pay that again! No settings have been changed, has to be something simple for it to be doing this,,, anyone out there with some idea's other then buying a new unit or calling " Hey Culligan Man ?? " :dunno:

If it's got an electronic control- Find the motor/valve setup under the hood. There are microswitches on a cam that tell the control what position the valve is in. See if the switches or wiring have failed, causing the valve to rotate constantly.

FYI- I have no idea what a Mark 40 is, but I've fiddled with lots of other brands.
