Hey all
Many people know that in the tool chest world, two dimples on the sides of the lock is a tell that it is a Waterloo made box, regardless of whose name is on the box. My question, is there a similar tell on their hand carry boxes? I’ve got a couple of boxes I’ve picked up over the past year or two, and finally got them both side by side. One is a Proto 9955, at 19x6x6.5h. The other is unmarked, but 19x7x7.5h.
While they were side by side, I noticed matching dimples on the top surface, forward and back from the handle. See them above the other tools in the pic below. I saw a note online saying the 9955 was Waterloo made, so guessing the other was too.
My attempts at catalog searching struck out, possibly due to a typo. The 6 v 7” seems mildly concerning. I was hoping the 9956 would be the next size up, but has a cantilever tray instead. Appeared in the 1962 & 63 catalogs, finding nothing else. Not finding anything the next size up. So probably not a Proto, but at least maybe Waterloo made.
Thanks for any insight.
