Waterloo Machinist's Chest Restoration

I believe I posted this somewhere, but photobukit killed my photos. I am going to paint it in the gray and red style to match my other Craftsman boxes/cabinets.

The drawers are taken off their slides and just sitting in the chest. I am missing the door that slides in at the bottom. Thanks for reminding me. I need to contact Waterloo about one.

In good shape other than that
I think it has the front door.

Rsanter, if Zeeman isn't interested in the door, let me know. I have a couple of Kennedy 520's missing their doors as well.

Some of the hammered gray applied, but I ran out of paint. I also painted on of the drawers red. It's taking some getting used to, compared to being one solid color. It's growing on me though, and I wanted to try to make it match my other red and grays.
I welded the holes, used body filler, then putty to smooth out the front.

lookin good so far. Did you take the inside of the box down to bare metal, or just scuff the paint before priming? I never know how far to take that.

I contacted Waterloo, and they were very helpful. They asked for measurements, and I just have not emailed them back. I hoped to find a Craftsman badged door to match the chest's new identity.

Paulm, I took 99 percent of the paint off on the outside, and just scuffed the inside with 320 paper. I also used a Scotch Brite pad with degreaser first. This would probably be enough to make the primer stick well, but a little extra sanding does not hurt. If there are rusted spots on the inside, I take that down to bare metal and smooth the surrounding paint before priming with filler primer.

not sure how I am going to proceed. The top and front cover need some metal work, and that's not me. I dont really want to paint without that work. So for now I have set it aside.

I finally got my Waterloo machinist's chest painted (except for the door which I don't have yet). I hope to get a door from a fellow GJ'r. I was not sure I was going to like the colors on this chest because they were so different from the original bluish-green, but I like it now.

I bought one similar at an estate sale, tag read: $20 tool box and "stuff"
The box was missing the door but I overlooked that when I opened the drawers to see the "stuff". Most of it is Mitutoyo !
I made a door for it and tried to match the patina as best I could. It more difficult to make paint look old than it is to put new paint on it
