Waterloo Tool Box--Lube?

I just bought a vintage Waterloo 6 drawer toolbox. Made in USA. In cleaning it up it looks like the P.O. used 30 wt oil to lube the slides and there was lots of greasy, dirty gunk that I had to clean off.

What is the best stuff to lube the slides? I'm thinking wax or soap. But maybe it's best to leave them un-lubed? I dunno. Somebody eddicate me. There are no rollers--it's just a slide mechanism.

I've used spray-can light grease. Using a straw applicator, it's easy to get the lube down in the channels.

I used a fine point on a small grease gun using all purpose grease.

Mistake.

That stuff is too thick and makes opening the drawers a bit more difficult. I’ll probably just leave it but if I get groggy I’ll clean it off and use something thinner.

I've been using CorrosionX on my latest tool box finds. After cleaning as much gunk out of the slides as possible I spray the CorrosionX into the slides and drawer brackets and do a few open/close exercises and they're good to go. I don't know the exact weight/viscosity, but it's thick enough to coat everything without causing any drag, but doesn't evaporate like WD-40. I found it at the local True Value.

Paraffin wax works the best imho.

Thanks guys. I think I'll try wax. I've used wax on the gears of my old Unisaw, and they don't attract dust/dirt like grease or oil would.

I like to use either the spray on garage door lube or spray SuperLube.
