Hi, everyone.
Been lurking for a little while now, but the time comes when a fellow has to ask a question or two . . .
In the past year or so I've become really fascinated with vintage tools. I bought and restored an Atlas 1020 drill press that is just a joy to use. Same with a late 50s Craftsman "floor" saw, though I still need to put a new fence on it. (I actually have a Vega, in the box, waiting. Next item on the to-do list.) I found a hand plane in a pile of stuff while I was out for a walk and restored it for my dad, who has a little collection of them.
At the moment, I'm working on an older Rockwell 46-111 lathe, which I'll post about in another thread. It's got me scratching my head a little.
For most of my life, I've been more or less a stranger to garage life. Never having learned much when I was younger, I was intimidated to work on stuff and afraid of making mistakes. But after settling into a house that I like a lot and working on a variety of small projects--audio equipment, espresso machines, and so on--it's really satisfying to have a dedicated space for that stuff.
Thanks for having me. I'll see you around the boards.
