Wavian gas can concern about spout paint defect

Edit: short version: Concerned about paint anomalies inside spouts of 2 brand new Wavian 10 liter gas cans. It was suggested in post 2 to just clean up as best I can and proceed with a fine mesh screen funnel, relying on the fuel filter system in the generator to catch anything else. I'm good with that, wondering if refinishing those areas with something [I don't know what], especially the cracked bubble, would be overkill. thanks

original: long version:
Hello, I've got a brand new small inverter generator I can use outside at my ground level storage area to run some tools etc. Live in an apartment and as far as noise goes can hardly do anything here. Anyway, I'm fortunate to have a small airport nearby where I can get mo-gas straight out of the pump. The plan is for my new generator to never see ethanol :)

The genny will be in regular use, but gas storage was a concern. Wanted most spill proof safe odor free design possible. I'm new to gas cans, never really needed one. After looking around I decided to start off with a small 10 liter Wavian. Found a decent price on Ebay from a seller looong time specializing in one of the high end import SUVs. Assumed I was all set!

The first one had a paint bubble inside the spout which chipped when lightly grazed with a finger nail. Sent pics, they immediately sent a new one out, no charge, keep the old one. So, I have in the back of my mind, hmmm will have to go on GJ for advice on if I can make that one usable :) I asked them to please check the new one going out, was assured. Just now getting around to opening it.

There is a paint run off on the vent side of the spout which formed a blob at the bottom. May have spread to both side corners forming what might be a crust. Not sure what I'm seeing. The corners might be separate accumulations, perhaps OK. Took some pics with my cheap USB boroscope. That blob has got me worried, not sure about the rest.

Am I being picky? Kind of squeamish with it being the fuel supply. Considered poking the blob with a bamboo skewer to see what happens but waiting until I get some feedback here, haven't contacted the seller yet. Also any thoughts on stabilizing that blister area on the first can [see pics]? Certainly modern science has something that's going to lock that down tight for gasoline use, yes?

Thanks for any input!

There is a reason the most fuel systems have filters on them. I'd suggest clean as best you can and go to the chainsaw store and get a funnel with a screen in it to catch the chunks that come out of your fuel can and rely on the fuel filter in the devise to remove what gets in the tank.

I can work with that, thanks larry_g! I actually have a screened funnel somewhere I got in a pile of stuff at a yard sale, unknown use history when I got it have yet to use it for anything myself. OK, moving forward, thanks again! So, put both tanks in use then "as is" [maybe rub that crumbly blister down on the first one I got with a popsicle stick] then go ahead just be sensible with a fine mesh screen?

Edit: re: prep: OK, "clean as best you can", didn't sink in first time read. good to go, thanks!

I'd use both of those cans without a second thought.

Thanks for the reassurance, much appreciated!

Took a popsicle stick and rubbed off the remainder of the burst blister, had a vacuum going for the crumbs. The blob on the other one popped off clean. Not sure where it went to. Did some more exploration with the boroscope to see if it was hung up somewhere like inside the internal vent...
whoa!

I had warm fuzzies from the market speak on the special paint lining these. A closer look reveals all manner of drip blobs and a few rough scabrous looking areas inside both cans. Definitely will be proceeding with some kind of funnel screen whatever.

These are for mo-gas for my yet to be used new generator. Had a thought to maybe put a half gallon or so of E10 gas in each can, shake it up real good, then quickly strain into another plastic can I have. Dump into my van.

Was wondering about maybe shaking with water instead, then let it dry real good? That would eliminate having to deal with gasoline, and being new/unused I could just dump it down the sink. Any thoughts on that? Would just need to make sure it dried thoroughly.

Or do none of that, just proceed with mo-gas and funnel screen as already suggested. These cans are in wide spread use, must be a non-issue. Interestingly mine are 2017 and 2019, no change.
thanks
