I placed an order with Sears last week for a 48pc thread restorer kit ($48.55 :pimpflash), (2) 20mm sockets, (1) 23mm socket, and (1) 15/16" Crowsfoot. This is what I received............

As a business owner (and a somewhat decent human being), I felt like I should call them to see if they wanted back the (23) extra 23mm sockets that they sent me, but didn't charge me for. After sitting on hold to speak with customer service (who resembled a robot), they asked me to return them to my local Sears. I told them to send me a shipping label instead as I'm not spending $9 in my gas when they can send me a label that probably costs them $5. After being placed on hold again, the robot told me that they were "going to let me just keep the extra item" (all 23 of that item). Keep in mind, the value of these sockets is $28.06, and my total order was only $58.52!

And people wonder why Craftsman is being sent to China! FWIW, all of the sockets that I received were Made in USA Craftsman Industrial, and I wasn't impressed with the quality of any of them. If I wasn't just trying to fill empty pegs on my socket trays with cheap Made in USA sockets, these would be going back.

Now I need to find a use for 23 extra sockets!

If you want to get rid of two. I would gladly pay shipping.

I'll take one, as well, if you're trying to find a home for them.

If you are serious, it looks like I can flat rate them for $6. Shoot me your address and I will send you my Paypal.

I'll open this up to others as well. I'll go to the post office at the end of the week and mail them out.

I have no use for 23 extra sockets that are an odd size to begin with.

I'd be in for one, my set ends at 22. I'd probably never use it, but hey, tools.

Where did you find a 20mm socket? I couldn't find a Craftsman one available, ended up filling that spot with Snap-On, which is pretty silly as that one as well is probably never to be used.

The 20mm sockets were on the Sears website. I picked up a 1/2" drive 12pt and a 3/8" drive 6 point.

I think I paid $1.22 from Sears, so I'm just giving them away for postage as good Karma points. I drive by the post office everyday, so I'll swing by and grab some boxes/envelopes later this week and ship them all out.

You did the right thing and sears wouldn't even send you a box.

Just retarded IMO

huh, I do see it now. I do remember searching for it a while back though and not finding it. Well, I have a 20mm Snap-On in my rack now, and I'm not OCD enough to remove a Snap-On socket to replace it with Craftsman :O

How'd you get the 48pc for $48??

I tried to review the order to see exactly how it worked out, but I think it boiled down to it was on sale and I applied the Save15 coupon, and the order qualified for free shipping. Sears website is so bad, I can't give you the exact break down.

Good for you for making the effort to be honest, most wouldn't. Awhile back I was ordering some shop supplies and just to round out the order I added 2 cans of parts cleaner. Couple days later a gigantic box arrives and I'm thinking what a waste of shipping materials this is. Then I pick up the box and think "this can't be right". Open it up - 2 CASES of parts cleaner instead of 2 cans. I also made an honest effort but got fed up with them wasting my time. I called 3 separate times on 3 separate days and they kept putting me on hold, forwarding me, etc. After explaining why I was calling for the millionth time I gave up and chalked it up to dumb luck.

I would guess they know what their costs are for the product and what it would cost to get them back and it was at best a wash so they let them go. I work for a company that for the most part deals with shipment errors the same way it is more costly to get the goods back than to write them off.

Can I send you money for two of them? DO they have to go flat rate priority mail or are they light enough to go first class?

Made out like a bandit! Had the same happen with me over about 4 sockets (missing from my order) and they refunded me over the phone. Pretty painless!

You have to think..when guy was packing the order did he really think someone would order so many sockets in one oddball size? I know at the very least I would have to double check before packing that box..

I brought a claw hammer, which they shipped in a padded envelope, very nearly escaped, I'm not sure the packing people think too much about what they pack and how they send it.

I'm making $0 on these and spending my time to do it, so really dont want to mess around with anything but flat rate as the post office has the shipping materials.

The reason the rep at Sears had such a hard time figuring out how to handle your problem is that problems are so unusual for them. They very, very rarely make mistakes, and there are no problems with their business, ever.

....right? ;-)

I know this was has been mentioned before, but watching sears fail is fascinating. Like a slow motion car wreck. I can't look away!

The packing guy probably didn't know what a socket is, much less that it's a rare size. He just needs to know which side of the tape is sticky. :D

Judging by the pictures, you only receive good packaging if you receive something you didn't order. I thought all Sears boxes had drain holes. :headscrat The irony is strong at Sears.

Nice effort OP. I've also gone this route before with extra items and almost always end up with less than gratifying results. They tend to cut their losses pretty quickly these days and I've found its much easier to help them with that.

DAMN!- Sears, Craftsman 23mm sockets are on back order again... ;)
______________

At most I would have wanted them to go back to were they came from. A return to sender or whatnot. Had to be from a warehouse. Not much you can do if they won't send you a return box though.

Hey , you tried.
