One of my garage doors suddenly decided to exhibit the below behavior. After grinding my concrete floor in prep for Kilz 1 part epoxy I used my leaf blower to clean up a bunch of dust. Part of that effort was leaf blowing the garage door area. Shortly thereafter after pressing the garage door button things just didn't sound right. Nothing really off when opening. However, when closing the door it was noisy and noticed that upon opening the last 2 feet the cables on both sides are now loose. When closing, the cables find their way back in the grooves within a few foot drop of the garage door.
I was trained by the owner of a garage shop on how to tighten the springs and loosen them. I tried tightening two turns and the door will no longer open all the way so I went back a few turns.
The door appears to be reasonably balanced e.g. it doesn't go up or down when I pull the release. Also, after pulling the release the garage door is not very heavy.
Any pointers here before I call a garage door company? I can't call the same people back who gave me the training a few years ago. They won't show up.
Sort of ironic.
Either way, thanks for any thoughts as to what is going on here and what needs to happen next.
