Wayne Dalton gararage door issues after professional spring replacement

One of the springs for my garage door broke and after being convinced here to have the spring replaced by a company my garage door opening behaves in a strange manner.

The garage door opens just fine but jerks pretty hard in a pusling manner when I close the garage door. It will break soon if this is not addressed.

This is a Liftmaster automatic garage door opener with the springs hidden inside the tube.

Operation was smooth with the one broken spring in both directions.

I have not been able to make contact with the company after installation.

Any ideas what to check garage door opening is very smooth but closing is really jerky?

I saw the removed broken spring and the garage door will now stay put in place if I open it half way so it doesn't appear to be a spring/spring adjustment issue.

Thanks.

How does it feel when you operate it by hand, is it binding?

Next try lowering it with the opener and you pulling down on the door with a little force. Does that fix it?

Also how much slack does your chain have?

I pulled down on the door with a little force as I closed it and it fixed that. My system uses a large belt. Would that be in addition to a chain or instead of one?

Instead. If it has a lot of slack then it could be causing what your are seeing. Check the belt, if it's noticably drooping then possibly and issue but overall it seems like your spring is wound just a little too tight.

Thanks. The belt has slack on one side but not the other. Can the belts be tightened? I agree with you on the spring being a bit too tight. I tightened it another turn since that was the easiest route instead of starting over and I am pretty sure it has gotten worse.

Download the manual for the opener and see if there is a way to adjust slack.

When the spring broke and I had no idea it did it broke a chunk out of the middle of the garage door. I offset the bracket a bit. The installer reviewed and said it was ok.

I don't want to jump down rabbit holes since it worked fine prior to his spring replacement. I will upload a pic.

I'd be getting that bracket paralleled again.
I understand that it worked fine before the spring was replaced? but now it doesn't? when the spring was broken there was weight on the door, and now with the new spring it's balanced.
I'd start there if it was me.

You would start off with getting the bracket in line again? Any ideas on how to do that in that area now that the meat is gone? Others have mentioned replacing that insulated panel. I would rather avoid that.

It looks like the opener bracket is fastened to the wind brace and not the door. Am I correct?
I do believe this is the correct configuration for that door. I think this question has come up before during some of my previous threads but it was decided that the configuration is correct.
