Hi

I have (2) 9600 series Wayne Dalton doors in my man cave and one is equipped with an idrive opener. As you've probably guessed the iDrive I bought is not working well and I wish I knew about this cool site before I bought it. My question is has anyone been able to install a Liftmaster 3800 to the torquemaster torsion tube. Can the coupler from the 3800 be adapted to fit the torque tube? Could really use some help with this. Man cave is in need!!!

Thanks,

Tony

Here is a picture of a Torquemaster 3800 adapted to a Wayne Dalton 9600 door. DSC00787s.jpg

My builders garage door guy did this. The Torque Tube was discarded.

At the time, Wayne Dalton quoted me a price of over $2K to do the engineering necessary to make this happen. It actually cost $600 in parts and labor for the garage mechanic to "engineer" it in place.

At the time I found a lot of info on this site on how to make this happen.

It will not work with the TMS at all. You can however take the TMS down and convert it to a standard torsion system.

The iDrive that I installed in my garage about 6 years ago happened to come with a lifetime warranty.
When it inevitably died a painful death after 3 years of use, I was able to call in and get a replacement shipped out.

Took me a couple of hours to swap them out and get the openers reprogrammed, but that's far easier (and cheaper) than replacing the springs.

Lesson learned, though - we're building a new house now with a 973 sq. ft. garage and I'm getting LiftMaster 3800 openers for both doors in this one...

Hey, Thanks for the quick response guys!

Looks like changing to a conventional torsion system is the answer. It's too bad the WD iDrive didn't work out it is a very clean looking installation. Does anyone know what the end of the regular bar looks like? Is it just a round bar stock and does it use a key-way? The 3800 seems to have a collar/clamp combination. Clamps the end of the rod????

Thanks nova65ss

I think I'm going to order a Liftmaster 3800 for my other door and do one at a time. I'll look at making a coupler to the Torquemaster tube first and post if I succeed. If not I'll change the tube like you suggested.

Thanks again guys.
