WD-40 ... Flame ... Tire Bead Seating

Found these two youtube vid on seating a tire bead to the rim when you don't have a high volume air pump to seat the bead. A true MacGyver move. One vid shows three attempts with few seconds of sustained flame that they have to put out. Not sure if I want to pull such attempt while the wheel is still on the motorcycle.

Starting fluid will sure to the job of seating a tire on the rim but it may take the hair off your arms in the same moment.......been there.

Not something I would do, well maybe to stick a tire forever on the rim.

Quite a few of the vids looks pretty dicey. I think I'll just keep this "method" in mind as a very last resort if I am stuck in the woods with no other option. Maybe limiting the number of squirts to limit the risk. If it does not work, add one more squirt on the next attempt.

yeah, sure seems like that this would be safer if the wheel is bolted to something heavy, like a car.

I have an air tank off of a truck with a valve to push a large amt of air fast. You really don't have to worry about beads not sealing if the tires are virgin casings. Starting fliud isn't what it used to be and has less ether nowadays. Back when you could still find good ether(easily at least) that was the best way to do it.

wd40 ***** get GOOD ether, like from an implement dealer, not some watered down parts store bs. john deere, agco allis, etc.

It's not that dangerous if you're not a tard.

A few hints:

1. If you don't use enough the first time you can always try again. If you use too much...well, you figure it out. I watched a guy blow the wheel inside the tire, *****. He was lucky that was all that happened.

2. DO NOT DO THIS WITH A RATCHET STRAP AROUND THE TIRE! This shouldn't have to be said, but I watched somebody do it after telling him not too. He didn't believe me. Unfortunately for his radiator that is now equipped with the ratcheting mechanism, I was right. If you have a strap around and regular air won't cut it, take the damn strap off before grabbing the ether.

3. Remove the valve core. Yes, it will seat the tire, but it also ***** up the oxygen and pulls it right back off the rim. notice how they put air on it right away? It works much better with the core out. Get some air in it, then put the core back in and keep inflating. this also helps not blow it off the wheel when it seats.

4. If you're doing it on the ground and the wheel is much skinnier than the tire, put the wheel on something. Otherwise, when the tire expands, it can jump off the ground. It probably won't go very high, but i guarantee you will jump with it anyway.

5. don't lean over it and toss a match or something at it, or spray the can at a match like they did, it's stupid. spray around the rim, then spray yourself a stripe down the tire, and 5' away on the ground. Light that.

6. I claim no responsibility for injuring yourself while attempting said actions.

In addition to this, remove the air chuck from the hose, just press the quick coupler on the valve stem. This will allow much more air to flow.

I've done it quite a few times,only blown up one tire.Sometimes when it's really cold and you spray and the light all you get is a little flame.Then the next time it seems like there is leftover ether in the tire because even when spraying the same as before it goes with a bang.Took the windows out of the bay door one winter when i blew the sidewall out of a semi truck tire.Was deaf for a couple hours lol.
