We need a way to flag threads when the items are sold

Moderators and powers that be, is there a way to create a flag for threads when the items have been sold? This could be activated by the original poster or a moderator and would make it alot easier to surf the ads.

In response to your question, I would suggest something like a red padlock icon to the left of the thread title to show all items in that thread have been sold.

If the op would just edit his post and add at the top of his thread that the items are sold, it would let you know when you run your mouse over it, before opening the thread.

I think the point Is to flag sold if all items are sold. That way we don't waste time opening the thread. If 3 of 4 items are sold the thread is still worth opening.

In that case, what mtwaterguy said. Moderators won't be able to keep up with what has sold, it would be up to the seller.

One way we deal with this on other forums is there is a stickied thread at the very top of the classified section. Once items are sold the thread title or link is posted to that sticky by the OP and asks for deletion. A mod then reads it, deletes the sale thread and reports "Done" o "Got it". It does keep the classifieds section clutter free.

HOWEVER, It does require more work of the mods. This system works better on forums where there are many mods available. If that is not the case here, that may not be an idea to try.

It would be great though, if on current posts if the OP would go in and delete the items from the post if it's sold instead of just posting "SOLD" next to the item. That would keep the search engine from picking up the keywords in the post.

That sounds like a lot of work to me. I'd rather have something that works without mod interaction. We have enough problem keeping up with people who cannot follow the posting rules. I'm on a lot of other boards and none of them have this sort of classifieds setup.

Yeah, I think you're right. Folks still can bump after 72hrs per classified rules.

I think they should delete sold items from the post as well. That way the search doesn't clue in to key words within the OP.


Oh, for the OP here, the advanced search feature does allow for a time frame to search within. That will help cut down on results that are months or even years past. I do see your point though. I get excited over items that have already been sold.

I only get a portion of the ad in the preview. A long list of items isn't going to show everything in the snippet you can view.

Depending on he number of items that could be a problem. Checking this thread and the one below it, it seems like you have about 30 words. That would cover most all ads.
