A salesman sold my son a bunch of extension cords with his company name and phone number on them. Someone broke into a job tool trailer and stole some tools, including the cords. About a month later a sheriff's deputy from about a hundred miles from where the tools were stolen called my son. They busted some dudes for stealing tools and my son's extension cords with his name and number were in the stash. He eventually got most of his stuff back and those guys are now using soap on a rope so they don't have to bend over in the shower.

Just sent link to a couple buddies. They are contractors and subs have a way of liberating extension cords.

At my dads company we started using labeled extension cords about 10 years ago. Can't say we ever recovered a lost cord but it seemed to have slowed down the rate that we lost them. Easy company ID means a lot on a crowded job site with several subs working at once.

A friend of mine just got several from there I think. Both ends lighting is very nice, I wanted to steal one, but didn't. Visually the seem to be good cords, but they haven't been to enough gigs to really tell.

I first saw printed cords forty years ago. When I was doing sheet metal work the company had cords that had "stolen from university mechanical" printed on them. At the time a lot of large contractors had printed cords because Cal OSHA was changing cord ends every week. I had a five gallon bucket full of adapters just like everyone else. The adapters were printed also. It was very common to "inspect" other cords on the job to see if they were yours.

I was sitting here thinking "Why would you want your name and number on an extension cord? No one gives out cords as a promo..." Goes to show you what I know of the contracting field....

I'm not a contractor but I think it's a fantastic idea.
I could even see electrical contractors handing them out as promos on a new house, whether the house is earmarked for someone (pre-sold) or if it's a spec house being built by a developer with hopes to sell it later.

The price for 100'12 gauge isn't too bad if it is SJOOW. My guess it is the much cheaper SJTW.
