I have a weatherguard model 117 tool box in my truck. The gas struts are wore out and I'm wondering if there is a way to cross over the part number to a cheaper strut? Weatherguard strut is a 7249. I can't justify almost $100 for 2 struts.

Take the strut off and bring it to the parts store and have them match the size, I did that for mine and they had the same size in stock at advance Auto, was $17 each I think.

I bought some from pep boys a few years back for my Kobalt box. I want to say they were dee zee. Still working. They have multiple styles. Just bring an old one and match it up. May have to modify a bit or accept the fact that the lid may not open fully or whatever, but like you said, I can’t justify $100 either. Weatherguard did send me new logos and rivets for my box for free. I’d take a shot and ask them if the struts are covered under a warranty or anything. You never know.

My tool box is probably 15 years old so I doubt there is any kind of warranty left on them.
