Friend of mine has a Weaver 60 ton hydraulic press. He would like to rebuild the cylinder and pump system as it leaks really bad. I haven't been able to find any info online for a rebuild kit. Can it be rebuilt? I will probably be going over today to take a closer look at it and to get model numbers off the cylinder or anything I can find to try and see if someone makes a seal kit for it.

Any info would be great.
Thanks
Chris

I have a talented friend that rebuilds anything, when he has time. For any hydraulics I've seen him take stuff apart and measure the pieces then order seals and O-rings and anything else.

Of course if you can find a "kit" it's easier but the old way works.

Easiest way is take the seals you need to a local seal supplier. (Google it) If you're rural, may have to drive. Likely cheaper than a "kit". They can measure them if you're not comfortable doing it.

Thats pretty much what I said to a friend of mine is he will need to take it apart and take each seal to a place that does cylinders and match up seals.
I'm sure these seals are still being made but for other cylinders.

Thanks

I know this is an old post, just wondering if you were ever able to find any information on this press. I have one as well. The only reference I see at all to the hydraulic 60 ton press is the 1954 ad on the Castle site. I was looking for exploded views, parts lists, service manuals etc. for this press. I was able to find some seals for it, but it has a tank that was added afterwards. Not sure if there was even a tank at all originally, or if the pump was plumbed directly to the cylinder. Also, I think there is supposed to be a spring on the check ball, but it's missing. If I could even see a picture of that so I have a general idea of what I am looking for it would be helpful. I think it disappeared while the press was apart for resealing.

These old presses often have a thick leather bucket as primary seal ,and a square woven asbestos rope packing held in by a cst iron gland for the outer packing.......check valve will be a ball and spring ......sometimes no spring, just grvity and oil flow to seat .
