Weaver WA-73A Question

I am currently trying to take apart a Weaver WA-73A jack that I bought at an auction. It was going well until I tried to take the end off of the rod. I removed the cotter key, but cannot get the end off the rod. I don't want to damage the rod. Is there a trick to getting this apart?

Are you referring to the ram or pump plunger? Pictures would help. I assume this is similar to the WA-72 that I just started restoring.

It's pretty common on those weavers for the ram to stick in the swivel, I normally take 2 cold chisels, 1 on each side of the center stub and using the natural bevel of the chisel drive them down, working side to side. Once you get it out, prior to reinstalling I always hit the stem with a grinding wheel and lube the hole with some heavy bearing grease.
