I did hit an embankment with the work pickup a couple months ago that stopped me dead in my tracks (face into the steering wheel, broken nose, bent track bar type of stop) that didn't rearrange a single tool though. Its more the side to side bouncing around movement that throws tools around in the Montezumas I believe.Dang I like that angle iron idea! Thanks for the input!Yep, 30” Montezuma. Don’t have any pics of the inside, but it’s about as full as one can possibly be. I love it. If I lost it today I’d order another one tonight. I’m actually trying to justify buying another one for my other truck but so far I’ve held off. This one is in a frame I made out of 1” angle iron. It’s never jumped out or slid around. Tailgate keeps it in place, then I slide it back to have easier access. No issues with towing gooseneck trailers. I’ve also never had an issue with wrenches jumping off, but the smaller sockets did jump off some times. I got some of the little tiny bungee cords at harbor freight and attached them to retain the sockets. No issues since then. Most of my driving is on rough gravel roads.
Yes foam or carpet on the lid would do the trick as well. I could see needing to upgrade the strut to something a little stronger with the extra weight though.It's hard to justify buying one if you don't have a major need for one...I know the 36 inchers are around that 700 dollar mark right now.
I do remember losing some 1/4" drive sockets off of their pegs now that you mention it. It hasn't happened for awhile though that I've noticed. Maybe I drive better now
Id like to see your bungee cord thing to keep the tools in place. I have considered trying the magnet bar things from harbor freight to try to keep the wrenches in line. I really think that some thicker foam or carpet glued to the lid would press into the pegs and keep anything from falling off though....I just haven't had the time/materials/ambition to try it yet.
It’s not the best or easiest-to-use setup, but it was the cheapest and easiest way to make it functional in a regular truck bed. Obviously a flatbed would be ideal, but that’s not for everyone. I’ve also seen the swing out type mounts made with a trailer hub and bearings which would be really cool. But that’s a lot of fab and expense to make it stout enough to hold together!
I have a flatbed on my truck anyway (or at least I will soon, it’s sitting on pallets in the yard, just need to paint the truck’s frame and install my shackle flip) so I was thinking of mounting it along the side of the bed, on the driver’s side. We’ll see, need to mount my spare tire on the headache rack and I’d like a job box or something as well so final layout may be different.

Never thought of that, kinda halfway between a box and a pegboard... neat!
Picked up some bungie cords today. If this works you may have just increased my quality of life by quite a bit.
