It enters just fine through the stump. Every farmer that i know paints the stumps with roundup and diesel fuel when clearing fence rows to keep them from suckering...
Just a little applied around the perimeter of the freshly cut stump is what's called for. Glyphosate gets transported through the living plant's vascular system, but nothing will "kill" heartwood, since it's already long dead.

Weedburners dont work great around vinyl fences.
Or a lot of other things.

I did kind of want a pull behind weed burner, but thought they might be fairly expensive to operate by the acre.
The hand jobs do get pretty smokey to operate. I might have ours out a little today.
It's been too windy to spray.
The weeds are getting. Big. Which makes the weed burner even smokier.

The chain which used to be called Lesco, and sold to schools, golf courses, municipalities, etc, has been bought out by John Deere Landscaping and still has good chemicals.

I use a mix of Speed Zone and liquid fertilizer called Green Zone to kill broadleafs and fertilize the lawn. I mix them together in the tank and add a dye so I can see where I've treated and where I've missed.

I use something called Prosecutor in the hedge rows to kill ground weeds and brush. That stuff will pretty much kills what ever it touches, but the mix must land on the leaves. If I hit the trunk of a tree, it doesn't do anything to that tree. Overspray on the ground is wasted and does no harm. I've missed weeds, the one that I hit died, but the one right next to it, which I missed, didn't. I used to use a Roundup substitute called Eraser, which worked well in fence lines and hedge rows, but I can't find it any more.

I want something that will kill the weeds/brush with one, or no more than two applications per year. Anything else takes too much time to be useful to me. Nothing seems to last from one year until the next.

Something happened last year and one of the biggest producers of Glyphosphate isn't selling is any more, the others have raised their prices accordingly. Anything with Glyphosphate in it is a lot more expensive than it was.

.
What do you use for die?

I have always had an issue telling where I have been when spot spraying. It wastes time & money.

Links or anything would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

This stuff. Its really BLUE. Wear gloves unless you want smurf hands.

"Recommended use rate: 4 to 12 ounces per 100 gallons of spray solution. For smaller spray applications using backpacks and small sprayers, use 1/3 to 2/3 of an ounce, (approximately 2 to 4 tsp.) per three gallon tank"

You only need enough color to see where you're currently spraying. Once you're through an area, you don't really care.

Thanks. In my cart.
I have the quart in my cart.

How much does one need?
I am guessing it's like fuel die and a little goes a long way.
The 8oz bottle lasts me a LONG time. You hardly add any to a 4-gallon mix in a backpack sprayer. It is a very potent dye.

Oh, to answer the question:
I have used
Gordon’s Pasture Pro (2,4-D)
Drexel De-Amine (2,4-D)
Tenacity (Mesotrione)
Glyphosate
Speed Zone (2,4-D)
Fire

Each for different reasons/seasons/availability.

Tenacity gave me the biggest scare (thought I killed my whole lawn renovation). Speed Zone might be the most effective for me. But, different climate, different weeds, different grass than you (everyone else’s too).

I use lake and pond colorant. It is much cheaper than a special "marking die". It is safe for fish, so no worries with your pets. Highly concentrated, blue in color, and it only takes about 8oz to color the mix in my 26 gallon spray tank. Up close to the house, I usually get some on the low stucco, but the color weathers away in a couple of weeks, even with no rain.

Do you have a link to what you buy?

Thanks

Get some 30% or higher vinegar and some of the colorant so you can see where it’s been sprayed. I don’t use the salt as I do not wish to make the sprayed areas sterile for months to years afterwards.

Be advised that with that high of a concentration, a respirator is needed as well as spraying from the down wind end, moving to the upwind end of the area to be covered.
It's 10% i use and re: salt - I use it mostly on my paver driveway.

In the only town in Pennsylvania, Bloomsburg.
"Glyphosate is acutely toxic to fish and birds and can kill beneficial insects and soil organisms."

"Some roundup from Home Depot -- he said take it back & he'd give me better stuff. He was right -- he gave me a quart of 41% roundup he buys from up in the Amish country -- 1/4 cup mixed with a gallon of water -- extremely effective!"

Yes effective in killing everything.... birds, insects , bees, and anything else in the area, great idea...anyone in your area developed leukemia yet !
