You know that little transparent bulb used to prime a whacker? Mine has a tiny itty bitty crack on it. Enough to have gas seep through it but not enough to cause some massive flow out.

You guys think its enough to cause the little engine to not drink up enough gas or maybe be sucking up too much air through it? I'm thinking the latter as perhaps it can't generate the vacuum it needs to **** the gas it needs.

My problem is the damn thing doesnt start up. I can spray start up fluid down the carb, and it starts up just fine. It shuts off after a few seconds. So I'm sure its a gas/air issue.

That air leak will cause it to run lean and burn itself up. I'd pull the muffler and look through the port at the piston and cylinder to see if it's scored and toasted/run a compression test before bothering with too much else. Cracked fuel lines or bulbs kill more two strokes than anything else.

Yup. Hopefully you didn't run it too long with the cracked bulb or on starting fluid. If the engine is not trashed replace the bulb and all lines. If the bulb failed the lines probably aren't far behind.

It will be fine. And don't worry, all the primer bulb all it does is pull fresh fuel though the carb and push the old gas old. And to change the primer on a zama or walbro carb, all you do is remove the four screws that hold the metal flange down, pull the primer and metal flange off and swap the primer bulb and reinstall.

Thanks guys. I've only started it up 2 or 3 times with starter fluid, and each it only ran a few seconds. The lines I actually replaced already, so they are still good. Yeah they already went through the cracked phase.

2, or 4 screws. It depends on the version.
The bulb on these carbs however is more than something that simply moves fuel around. It actually acts like the bowl in a mower carb, and is the source of fuel into the carb body. If it is cracked, the carb can indeed **** air and run dry.
