Or trying to cover 225' of yard with a 50' extension cord. I have owned a couple of electric weedwhackers. They just dont cut it. Literally.

"they" don't seem to build electric weedeaters anywhere near the specs of gas (which is a whole range within it's self).......unless you just HAVE to have an electric, i would buy a small name brand gas...bent shaft stihl, echo, etc....

Back when I was a teenager my parents had an electric weedeater - hated that damn thing. Several extension cords to reach the far corners of the property, having to backtrack to go around trees, getting the cords snagged on things... I'd only consider one if you had a very small lot with very minimal trees or other obstructions...
Thinking some more... Not sure if anyone makes a cordless one, but that would be the only way I'd even begin to consider it. The cord is just too much of a hassle...

Definitely get a gas one ... power cords don't belong in the garden ..

Go to a few local garden places and ask what they recommend, make sure they have a good return policy. I had to try out 3 electric lawn mowers before I found one that was ok.
My wife, may moons ago before we were married, lived in a town house and didn't want a pull start electric mower. She also didn't have the money to spend on a HUGELY expensive electric start driven mower. AND she wanted to keep it indoors.
Moving along, I decided to help her pick out an electric mower. We started out with the highest HP model they offered. Plain and simple it SUCKED. It didn't mulch the grass properly; it had a difficult time cutting any length just about everywhere. So, we tried a second unit, it was a steel deck medium hp model. It was heavy, and she physically couldn't push it around the yard. In addition to that, it simply didn't cut the grass. On our third and final trip I was ready to call a landscaper and she picked out this (in her words) "CUTE green one". It was the lowest hp, least expensive, ugliest piece of 99% plastic junk I have ever seen. It was also what the people in the store recommended I purchase in the first place. It is still in service today at her brother’s single family home. We are taking 12+ years later. Every year it gets a new blade, and that’s it. He still uses the same extra heavy duty extension cord (with raychem heat shrink and binding) that is 12+ years old. Lesson learned. Listen to the people that actually know.

I've got an old Stihl gas thats seen commercial use for 10 years and is Stihl going.
I've also got a set of Stihl commercial hedge trimmers that are the best. Even there non-commercial equipment is far and above better quality than anyone elses. I have a commercial grade Cub Cadet trimmer that was reasonable priced but they change model numbers every couple of years and its hard to find parts. Whatever you do though, go gas. You'll be glad you did. If anyone every comes up with a ride on weedeater, I'll be the first in line to buy one.
As far as electric lawnmowers go, I have seen one or two that did a good job. My parents bought one in the mid-1970s made by Black and Decker. It looked like a regular gas-powered rotary mower, but with the motor mounted in the center. It did a very acceptable job, and they still have it.
I have an old Sunbeam unit out back somewhere that belonged to my wife's grandfather. It has two high-RPM motors on it swinging short (about 10") blades side by side. It is a real screamer and cuts grass like crazy. I don't use it because my place is just too big to drag cords around. It also sounds like a siren...
