had a good weekend at the auction, I got some good deals and did not realize that the large box was a US Gov box untill I got it home. Inside the box I found a tool bag that was marked USAF along with the original tool list that dated 1955. Alot of the plumb tools I found in the box match up with the list.

Very cool; that's a nice haul. Check those sockets and wrenches over very carefully; you might have some aircraft specific tools hiding in that box.

I did not think about that, I am going to clean these and see if I can read any of these any better. I was really happy to find the USAF tools. I never received anything like this in 2005.. I am having a blast going threw the box and cleaning, nothing like finding treasures..

Nice find! I remember seeing those Kennedy cantilever boxes on the flightline until the early 80's. We called them CTK's. (Composite tool kits w/ foam cut outs.) Sometime after that they started using the 2 wheeled roll around style. Those boxes took a beating on a daily basis!

When I look at that kit I think of mechanics keeping a fleet of B-50 (hotrod B-29's) bombers running. R-4360 28-cylinder radial engines with 4 rows of 7 cylinders each. 56 spark plugs to change!

Had a similar kit when working on the BUFF - engine was held on with THREE bolts - and two were 1/4 inch!

Cool stuff! Lake Charles AFB, Louisiana, 68th Bombardment Wing, Medium, was activated in 1952 and got the new jet powered B-47's and recip KC-97 tankers in 1953. In 1955 that tool kit was probably being used on the KC-97's since it says reciprocating on that tool inventory list. It became Chennault AFB in 1958, named after Lt Gen Claire Chennault of Flying Tigers fame. When the B-47's were replaced in the 1960's with B-52's the 68th BW moved to Seymour Johnson AFB in North Carolina in 1963 with new B-52's and KC-135A tankers and Chennault AFB close, becoming Chennault International Airport
