Went to an auction to try to get a pull type scraper bought to move some dirt.
Scraper was totally wasted, I didn't fight the scrapper a for it.

Guy had a decent assortment of tools and shop equipment, but nobody seemed to be buying. Maybe the effects of $3 corn are here!
Watched a nice Harris torch set with bottles sell for $175, probably should have bought it, but didn't want to run up a coworker.
Got a nice old Delta 220 Drill press, with what appears to be an aftermarket Savage Speed-Juster variable speed attachment that works really slick, for $40, a like new Milwaukee metal chop saw for $40 (to replace my dads that he finally stole back!) like new Craftsman electric 1/2 impact for $10, and an 18" Proto crescent wrench for $3!
Didn't really need any of it, but think the drill press will be a welcome upgrade for me!

I'll try to get some pics, as I've never seen a variable speed like this. Works like a variable speed sheave as used on a combine, with a moveable center sheave.

Guess it wasn't as good of a deal as I thought...the original Century 1/3hp motor stalls with any load. It's got a new Dayton 1/2hp on it as of tonight. Motor was a $15 farm sale buy, so I'm not out much, but kind of bummed, as the original just looked right.

Nice scores. That's a lot of good stuff in one haul. Well done.

Gotta say the . . . . . 18" Proto Crescent wrench for $3 is especially awesome score.

Question . . . is it a dual branded tool that actually says "Proto Crescent" . . .
. . . . . . or are you just using term generically ??

EXAMPLE: I just bought box of Puffs Kleenex ?? :D

. . . . . AND . . . this IS Indeed GJ . . . . need PICS of ALL items !! ;)

It's a Proto adjustable wrench. Not Crescent. I was using the term generically.
Already gifted the impact to a friend who's tool deficient.
I'll try to get some pics, but have a helluva time getting them posted.

Thanks for the photos Farmall. That's a pretty cool looking contraption up there.

Sorry to saddle you with questions but, how is it attached to the DP and how does it lock into position? Sorry so curious.... just have never seen one of those.

Thanks again for the quick turnaround on the photos!

The mount sits on the main post, and is secured by setscrews. The speed is adjusted by loosening the lever, which clamps a small brass shoe that holds the pivot arm in place when tightened.
Only reference I can find is in a 1949ish Popular Science ad. They show one, but it's fitted to a homemade scooter.
Old neighbor (almost 80) stopped by, told me an old factory had a bunch of Delta drills with these installed, and he has one he bought when it closed in the 1970's. Betting mine came from same place.

Thanks farmall... sorry to be so nosy. I googled too and found a similar ad (was installed on a band saw). Pretty neat looking thing... let us know how it works out...

No problem at all, Pan Fry. That's what this forum is all about, sharing ideas and information, and helping each other out.

Works great, but need new belts, the ones on there are pretty glazed.
My guess is that if it's lasted this long, it'll continue to do so!

I bought a Craftsman drill press in 1975, and put a Dayton 1/2 hp split phase motor on it. Ten years ago I replaced the bearings, and it is going strong today. I know what you mean by just looked right though.
