Hi all,
Long time lurker here....figured it's time to jump in.

Last Sunday I decided to cruise Craigslist for vises.I found a couple in Chicago that caught my interest and were in my price range.Although I'm 3hrs from Chicago, I'll still look as there is always a way to get things shipped.

First up was this Prentiss with 4" swivel jaw. It was located just a couple miles from a pal of mine who could assist with delivery. I made a couple calls and it was game on.This is my first Prentiss and I'm impressed with the quality and the swivel jaw feature.

Second was a Wilton swivel bullet with 4" jaws.It also included genuine Wilton copper jaw covers.I made a call and it turns out the seller was GJ member Thundermug. He agreed to box it up and ship it. He treated me very fairly on price for the vice and shipping, and it was a go for this one. It arrived promptly in a first rate packing job with a milk crate on the inside to protect the vise.

This is my first Wilton also and now I see what all the fuss is about these vises. This thing is a beast! I think, this will become my new user vise.

I'd like to give a big shout out to Thundermug for a proffesional sale. Great communication, the vise was as described, great packaging....well done. I'd recommend anyone to do business with him. Thanks

Rich

I'm having problems posting multiple photos for some reason, so here is one of the Wilton.

To pick up two vises in the same weekend, it must of been some heck of a deal! Both are good vices and will last you a lifetime.

Woodtick, Welcome! That 4" Prentiss swivel jaw is SWEET! Took me a WHILE to find a decent swivel jaw I could afford. Looks like you got lucky with that one. The Wilton's are always nice. Your set for life. (if you don't catch the dreaded Vise disease from this site! )

Both vices were very fairly priced for value recieved.I'd be interested to learn what vintage the Prentiss is.The Wilton is dated to 1974.

Rich,

Welcome to the club !!!!

As a newer member than myself I am going to try to help you out. Seeing as how that is your first Prentiss and it has a swivel jaw I want you to send that to me right away before you get attached to that particular feature. As those are normally quite hard to come by I don't want you to become frustrated when you cant find another one right away. This way you will remain interested in the hunt and after you find 10 or 20 you can start collecting the swivel jaws

Both of those are great vises

Autopts will not be your friend...

As our resident Wilton Guru, all Wiltons in the Chicagoland area should be offered to him, first...Seniority counts...:bowdown:

In order to preserve the peace, I suggest you PM him with an offer to sell him the Wilton at half what you paid for it, and throw in the Prentiss, gratis, as a peace offering...:thumbup:

If you can't see your way clear to do the above...

I'll give you a....."ya dun gud, Bubba"....:beer::beer:
