I've been looking for a mobile solution to haul around a set of hand tools. I'm looking at this rolling packout box for sockets, wrenches, hammer, etc., with a few organizers on the lid for smaller stuff like pliers and screwdrivers. The packout is rated for 250 lbs, but I'm worried that over time the amount of tools I would be hauling (about 50-60 lbs), might take its toll on the box. Is the packout system tough enough to handle that weight?

Are you using them for hobby homeowner stuff or a traveling tradesman? If you are a traveling guy what are your coworkers using?

According to one of the best heavy equipment mechanics in Southeast Alaska, yes they will hold up just fine. He's constantly flying with his tools. He usually travels with a stack of 3 packout boxes with each box in the range of 50-100lbs. You see them all the time at the airport and at work (underground mine) with the traveling tradesmen and underground drift mechanics. The average homeowner will be much nicer to them than airport baggage handlers and underground miners. The 2 main boxes you see are Milwaukee packouts and Snapon Cantilever boxes.

Here's the other underground miner resistant (because nothing is miner proof) option

I work on a farm/ranch operation and I've been wanting a weather resistant, portable tool setup that I can move between pickups and equipment when the service truck isn't available to use. It would see rougher use than your average homeowner, but probably not as rough as a professional like you are describing. If it works for them, then it will likely work for me. Thank you for the input. Hearing from folks who work in industries where these things are used hard helps me get a good idea of if the packout is the way to go.

I wouldn't hesitate with the packout stuff. It rains plenty here and underground isn't exactly dry. You see both the packout stuff and the snapon boxes strapped to the bed of a flatbed and dragged throughout the mines. I've never had one of the snapon boxes so I can't comment on the water resistance.

I've had the ridgid pro series boxes on my boat for the past 3 seasons. They've been 100% water resistant, held up to salt water, and I haven't broken any of them though usually aren't all that heavy. I'm not a huge fan of the generation 2 bottom box. The "cart" is removable it's huge and a pain to store, it doesn't compress down to a reasonable size. It might not be a huge issue if it's always going on the back of a pickup or don't need wheels to roll the boxes around though would be a pain if you were trying to fit it in a cab or SUV.

I got a couple pack out drawers and was thinking of setting up some basic kit for when I got to work at a relatives house but I’m not sure how to stabilize things in the drawers and idk foam seems too permanent I’m still kinda learning and upgrading my tools as I go and changing things from time to time

anyone able to successfully set up something for mechanics tools in one of these or not really?
