Relatively new to the site and don't post very often but I have this weird problem going on in the garage and was hoping someone might be able to help me out.

Here is the issue. We have dual single garage doors each with their own opener and wired button to open them on the wall. Both my wife and I park our cars in the garage at night. About a week ago the remote for my wifes car (not the garage door remote but the actual car remote) would not unlock the car. The car is wired such that you have to press the "unlock" on the car remote to be able to start the car. Thinking the problem was the car remote I replaced the batteries in it and still the same problem. Now about this same time, the remote in my car would not open the garage door on my side. Also the wireless key pad (so kids can get in) that we have for the door on my side stopped working as well.

Had garage door guy come out and thought the board in the opener on my side was bad. Replaced it and same problem.

We have tried everything we can think of including unplugging the door openers but my wifes car remote still won't work in the garage. Wierd thing is that if we park wifes car in the driveway the car remote works fine.

It sounds to me like there is some interference to the car remote and may be the garage door on my side. We have not added anything new or changed any electronic devices either in the garage or house. I might think it would be neighbors but the wifes car remote works perfectly fine when car is in the driveway.

Really puzzled by this one. Problem is I don't even know who I would try calling to come out and see if there is any electrical interference. Garage guy did not have an answer either other than he also believes it is some type of interference.

If anyone has any thoughts I am all ears!

Thanks!

Have you tried to relearn all of the garage door remotes? You might have a problem with interference of the rolling code (Genie). I had a problem with two garage door openers working simultaneously because of this. I was cured after relearning:) Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Have you changed or added any lights (LED, CFL, etc.) in the area? Clearly radio interference and relatively strong to affect all the things you are indicating. Maybe start hitting breakers, and unplugging stuff and see if you can isolate it.

We also need to know the type of garage door opener.
My 8500's freak out some laser equipment I have.
if an 8500 is open it will endlessly and rapidly trigger my laser activated triggers.

I have no idea why.
yours might be messing with the proximity detectors in your remote.

On my wife's side the opener is a Overhead Door python2 and on my side it is a Chamberlin Lift Master Pro Formula1. Have had both openers for awhile now.

There are a few threads on here about led lights causing interference even at a nieghbors house. If this just started happening maybe one of your nieghbors switched to leds.

You live in tahoe? Nick knows what it is...but you didn't post it in free parking.:bounce:

I won't outline most of it but it's not permanent electronic damage only temporary. As for dealing with it/them...feeding them or being more respectful towards them usually works. When they respect you they will respect your boundaries.

Even if you posted it in free parking I probably wouldn't state exactly how to deal with them because it's extremely hard for people to come to terms with; it completely changes (or...WARPS) ones perception of reality. The ones in your area (if it's tahoe) can be dangerous/destructive so don't provoke them (if that's what you got); bright light or infrared spectrum light (indoor or outdoor) can provoke them.
