I would buy that. I'm a sucker for the unusual stuff. How does that lever work?

For 40 buy it
That I think is a machinist vise. Not for use in a mill but in a machine shop. The jaws are smooth so as not to mar up the finish on a part.
It is quick acting so you put thenpiece in and slide the jaws closed. When you operate the lever it clamps the jaws just a little and locks them in place. Very much like some drill press or milling vises

BRR: where in Canada is this vise cause i'd definitely buy it or tell a few other members that might live closer too if you don't want it?

thanks for posting it up and I'm not sure if it's the maker that has been mentioned cause there were a couple makers of this style, but it is old and it is unique and not very common.

Looks like the seller is willing to hold it for me until Saturday so I will make the 100km drive.
I'll post it once I get it. Thanks for your help guys.

To my minds eye that is a quick acting PRODUCTION vise. It would be used in a production environment where an operator is clamping the same part over and over and doing some job on it.

There are no casting marks what so ever on the vise. I will be putting it up on the vintage vises soon after I clean it up a bit.
I've used it a bit today and I can see it being one of my favorite tools in the shop. Its very fast and holds just about anything really tight.

BigRed: if you ever get tired of that vise you just bring it to Seattle and i'm sure i'll have something to trade you for it. Big Congrats and i would have probably driven a couple hundred miles to buy it too.

glad you picked it up and thanks for sharing your journey and how you like it. also you must have had a very nice seller and had he owned it very long?

That's a great old vise. I would happily pay a good deal more than $40 to have a nice example like that.
