I got a bunch of old tools handed down to me and I found this wired looking SnapOne adapter. One end is 3/4" square for a socket, but the other ends don't make sense. I googled the PN and nothing came up. There were also some other impression's (see pics) but I think they were made by someone other than SnapOn. Any guesses what it is?

It might change an old hex impact gun into a square drive impact like we use today?

Edit: yep collecting snapon confirms thatsexactly what it is.. 1937 catalog. Converts an ingersoll rand dea driver to square drive.

Clips into an old hex impact gun to convert it over to square drive. Its an adapter they made to promote their tools. Made so companys that already had hex drive impact guns could buy snap-on sockets and use them on their current impact line up.

I'm not sure what it is, but the markings on it are sure interesting. I've seen United States Navy abbreviated USN quite often and CTR is a naval branch for cryptologic technicians (code breakers). Cool find!

TJ, I can't believe it. You just led me right to the 1937 catalog for the mystery tool I posted up last night in the vintage Snap-On Tool picture thread. Turns out my tool was altered as it looks like two A-1003 Master T handle shanks cut and bent to form an L handle.
Thanks guys I'm glad this thread came up. Now I have to go back and edit my tool post.

Way to post the catalog pic for us M/M.

That may be one meaning for "CTR" but why would a cryptologic technician need a hex to square socket adapter?

When found on US Navy tools used in shipyards, "CTR" almost always means "Central Tool Room."

Found another one just like it, but it has a 1" drive. I don't know the maker of this one, there are markings on it though. I imagine it was for the same gun. This one has a ballbearing on one side of the 1"square and a detent type pin that sticks out a fraction on the opposite end. Kinda weird.

You can make out "BRgoodwrich" on one side. But didn't see any numbers. The inside is a 3/4" hex and the ring has a groove with notches and the one end of the what makes up the handle, rests against the rotating ring and is what stops the inside prom further spinning. Ive never seem one like this. Are they common?
