I opened the breaker box in my attached garage today to add a new circuit and discovered a bugged off black wire dangling next to a 120 volt breaker (the black wire had been disconnected and bugged, but the white and ground wires were still connected). I turned the main off and found the white and ground wires to the cable and disconnected and removed all 3 wires from the box. I bugged the ends, added my new circuit and closed the box back up. Later I went to the bathroom and the lights and exhaust fan would not work. After an hour or so of rechecking my work I found that the unhooked cable had power on it (from another breaker), but only about 60 volts (wouldn't light my trouble light) Finally I rewired the white wire (only) into the return strip, the way I found it and the bathroom lights now work. These wires go into a finished bedroom wall above the garage and I can't get to them without doing alot of damage. A contractor did some work about 15 years ago and I can't remember the box being opened since and everything has worked fine all that time. Anyone have any suggestion? Thanks!!
